Gianna Rosco leaned back from her chair and stretched her arms over her head.
Her neck was sore from being hunched over her computer, so she started to do her little in-office-chair yoga stretches for her neck and shoulders.
"Hence is the life," she muttered as she stretched. She picked up her water and took a sip.
Empty.
"Time for a refill," she said."I cannot write about aliens seducing their women with an empty drink."
Her stomach grumbled."Or no food."
She walked into the kitchen and attempted to tell herself just how much she was going to love the salad she prepared to eat.
"Gah, it doesn't matter how many times I tell myself that I love salads, it doesn't change the fact that I really don't love them at all, compared with my love for carbs and sugar," she said as she took a bite of the salad.
Yes, she was talking to herself.
Alone in her house.
Maybe someday she’d get a cat, so she would at least look like she was talking to someone that was in the room.
“I miss my chocolate,” she muttered as she bit down on a big clump of her salad.“I really miss chocolate.”
Aside from the occasional tacos and rice she and Tina indulged in, she rarely ate heavy carb food. She always got takeout of her favorites, though, because if she ate there, she would inhale the whole bowl of chips and at least one bowl of salsa all by herself.
Ahh, the life of a diabetic.Caught soon enough that diet changes and regular exercise kept her off meds, but it was only a matter of time before those numbers got into the danger zone and she would have to be on the medicine.
"Thanks, Mom and Dad," she muttered to the empty room.
Not that she knew them.
She'd grown up in the foster care system, and there wasn't much information about her parents, including medical records. So, Gianna was her own medical record keeper, and the older she got, the more she found out that she did not come from the healthiest stock.
"Regardless," she said to herself."I have to get this book sent over to my editor today.I'm only a week behind on it."She had another chapter and the wrap up to write, but she could knock it out in a few hours, she hoped.
She finished her lunch and grabbed her laptop to go back out onto the deck and work. All the romance novels she'd written over the years had afforded her a great rental house on the beach. It was literally the size of a postage stamp, and it was billed as a family's vacation home when she'd found it because it was so small, but it was perfect for her.
The sound of the splashing waves made her feel better, and the smell of the ocean always soothed her.Maybe her family had lived on the beach before? She didn't know.Didn't matter. Her family was non-existent.While her foster family could have been a lot worse, it came as no surprise that when she turned eighteen, they were done with her.
On her own at eighteen, Gianna barely made enough money to pay her bills, so she had to find a side hustle. It started with writing fan fiction, only to amuse her and friends online. Then it evolved into writing her own stories. After a few of those, she figured out she was pretty good at it, and started selling them.
It took a while, but she was able to eventually make a living at it.Good enough to rent a beach house and sit on her deck and write more.
Was it a touristy area?No.
Was it the best and nicest area of beach?Again, no.
It was small.Quiet.And peaceful.
She called that a win.
"Hmm," she muttered."I wonder what this alien's schlong looks like?"An idea came to her, and she held that vision in her mind as she wrote the sexy coupling scene needed to bring her hero and heroine together in her latest alien romance story. They were the most fun things she wrote--she could make up anything she wanted.
Like schlongs that opened like flowers to cup a female's cervix.
She giggled as she wrote, because it was both hot and sexy, and it was so silly that she didn't know what to do with herself. She loved the idea of big hunky aliens bringing her to amazing orgasms with their super-dicks.She felt the same way about vampires and werewolves and fairies and demons and angels.Probably why she wrote lots of series about all those types of mythical creatures.
