Kolvin shook his head."How did they know we were here?"
He raised a good question. They had been there for five years, had the Rhimodians known for that long that they were there?Or was this a recent development.Logic told Marcin that it was a recent development, that the Rhimodians would not let their people sit as captives for any length of time.
"No answer for you," the female soldier said."They're waiting for your arrival on Sol-3 for reintegration with Master System."
Kolvin looked to the window, and Marcin did the same. They pulled away from a large, uncloaked ship.Square, and well-armored, the ship looked ready to head into battle.
Who knows?Maybe they had been in some battles already.
"What happens to that?"Marcin asked.
"Decommissioned," the soldier replied."As ordered."The female's gaze ran over Solkan for a moment before she took a seat across from them all.She pulled out a blaster and aimed it in their direction."Now, you all play nice, and I won't have to use this."
"We won't do anything we're not supposed to," Kolvin said.
She raised her eyebrow.
"Vinka," called the pilots.
She stood and walked to the front of the ship.
Kolvin noticed that Solkan did not stop watching her.
"You know her?"Kolvin said to Solkan, his voice low.
"No."
Marcin was willing to debate that.
The ship lurched, and flashes shined in the windows.
"Are we in a battle?"Marcin asked as he rose to look out the windows, at least that had been his intention until he saw how Kolvin was reacting. The lights and lurching caused him to curl into himself.
His fellow Rhimodian needed a friend.
"It will be fine," Marcin said.
Solkan stood and looked out.
"It will be," Marcin said again, and turned to Solkan.
Solkan shook his head.
A concussion blast hit the ship.
"Hold onto something," Vinka yelled.
The ship shook as the blast slammed into it.
Marcin went down, and his last thought was that he really should have secured himself on his seat better.
