How it had happened, she wasn’t sure, but there was absolutely something brewing between her and Kian. She believed it came from an initial trust. She had very few men around her in the past she had trusted as much as she trusted Kian.
Even when he exploded, she’d trusted that he wouldn’t hurt her.
Seeing as much of him as she had, well, if she were honest with herself, there was desire there, too.
Veta rolled her eyes. “You slept in his arms all the way back. And I saw the way he looked at you. Kian, in all his glowy power, will not let anything happen to you.”
Stubbornness made Freya want to argue more with Veta, but she was right.
Kian wouldn’t let anything happen to her.
The flight to Sol-3 had been quiet. Freya hadn't realized how tired she was until she sat down next to Kian and put her head on his shoulder. The next thing she knew, they'd landed, and Kian had scooped her into his arms. She was escorted to her suite and given ample opportunity to rest and freshen up.
Kian had been taken away as well. Freya had guessed it was some kind of medical facility to check his health after such an ordeal. Find out why he’d developed the ability to manifest electrical weapons with his own body. Just from how the other Rhimodian had reacted, that wasn’t a normal function of their people.
And she’d never read anything about that kind of ability either. Surely the Terrans would have documented such a skill.
Another Rhimodian had scanned her and Veta upon entering the room and determined that both women were well. Just tired.
Freya explained to the Rhimodian that she’d drowned and Kian had injected her with his nanites.
She’d wondered if Veta got an injection as well.
“Did he inject you, too?” Freya asked after a few minutes.
Veta got a smile on her face. “Wrathin likes injecting me.”
Freya scrunched up her nose. “He likes shooting you full of the nanites? That is strange, Veta.”
Veta burst out laughing. “That is not what I meant.”
“What did you—” And it hit her. “Oh. Oh!”
Veta grinned. “Did you let your glowing friend inject you?”
Freya shook her head. “I. No. I didn’t. There wasn’t really time.”
“Well, if you have a chance, I highly recommend it.”
Freya understood the spark that Veta carried. The afterglow of a woman who was sexually fulfilled.
“I don’t think it would be appropriate to be intimate with someone simply to be intimate.”
Veta shrugged. “It is incredible stress relief.”
A chime sounded, and Veta turned.
Her Rhimodian, Wrathin, entered Freya's suite.
“We are ready to continue.”
“Good. So am I,” Veta said. She turned back to Freya. “You be safe. I am sure that Kian will keep you protected, just in case anything happens while we’re gone.”
“Most likely not. This complex is well secured,” Wrathin said. He glanced at Veta, then back at Freya. “Kian will be here.”
“He will?”
“I will?” Kian asked as he appeared.
