He nodded. “The cold floor feels good against them.”

“Them?”

“Two spots.”

She sighed again.

“You do that a lot,” he said.

“What?”

“Exhale deep breaths. Do you have a breathing problem?”

She smiled. “No. I do it when I’m frustrated.”

“Do I frustrate you?”

“This whole situation frustrates me.” She glanced around. “Now, where would there be medical supplies?”

He pointed at a door near the stairs. “Check there. Should have some supplies.”

“Why is that?” Freya asked as she rose.

“It is a supply closet.”

She sighed. “Of course it is.”

She crossed to the closet and opened the door. Sure enough, inside, there was a medical kit and rations as well.

And weapons.

There was a nice arsenal of heavy weapons inside, with one rack open, and she guessed it was where the ion cannon had come from.

She brought the medical pack back and dug through it. “Ahh, here we go. Healing patches.”

He smirked. “The wounds are not bad. I merely need sleep.”

“Listen, boy,” she said, frustrated, scared, and angry. And she didn’t have time for his male ego stuff, regardless of how handsome he was.

He opened his eyes at that, one of his eyebrows raised. “Boy?”

“You’re just like any other male I meet. All children,” she muttered. “Now, I’m going to patch you up, and you’re going to get some rest. Hopefully, in a few hours, we’ll be in a better position to figure out what our next move is.”

“As you wish.” He closed his eyes, and a strange smile spread over his face.

He was enjoying making her nuts.

Perhaps he had a head wound? His short hair was cropped close to his head and angular bone structure. He just exuded arrogance. He had to have been hit in the head or something.

“You’re having far too much fun,” she whispered.

“Your attention is amusing.”

“I am sure it is. Did you get hit in the head?”

“No.”

“Uh-huh. Now, let me do this.”
