Now I am not one to blush. I don’t get embarrassed easily.

Even Audra’s little interrogation didn’t outright embarrass me. But she was my best friend, and I would have told her anyway.

This though…

“Uh, when are you closing up?” Shaun asked.

I blinked. “Five.”

Miss Evelyn tugged at me. “There,” she said.

I glanced out the door, tearing my gaze away from Shaun and his pretty eyes.

“My ride’s here,” she said.

And I’ll be damned if she didn’t turn to Shaun. “Here sonny. Take me out to my car,” she said and gestured to the car.

Shaun smiled at her. “Of course, Ma’am.” He glanced back at me. “I’ll be right back.”

I smiled.

And turned.

And everyone in the salon dropped their heads like they weren’t looking.

I sighed.

Squeezed the scarf in my hand and turned back to the parking lot where Shaun was helping Miss Evelyn into her grandson’s car.

And I groaned when I saw Miss Evelyn gesturing and pointing at Shaun. He kept nodding his head, and I could tell from the way his mouth moved, all he was telling her was “yes ma’am.”

I walked over to the desk to set down the scarf. I wanted to maintain my professionalism as best as possible.

I glanced at my mother’s client, Joanna. “Did we need to reschedule you for another massage?” I asked.

“Yes, I think that’s a good idea,” Joanna said. She glanced outside, just as the door started to open.

“Isn’t that the exterminator from next door?” she asked.

I nodded.

“I hear he’s loaded,” Joanna said, and she winked at me.

I looked down at the computer. “I wouldn’t know.” Okay, so Iwouldknow, and he was well-equipped. But I doubted that’s what Joanna referred to.

And honestly? I didn’t want to know.

This was just a thing.

It wasn’t like it mattered.

So why was it when I looked up, it felt like I was being punched square in the face with those eyes.

Like he was doing right now.

Staying back but watching. He stayed in the corner by the door and dressed in a pair of jeans and a Henley. His eyes crinkled from a smile when he caught my gaze.

“I’ll be just a moment,” I said to Shaun, trying to maintain my professionalism.
