Shit.

Shay’s eyes narrowed. “You sure about that, boy?”

Alan stepped back, bumping into Griffin’s hard chest and lost the ability to speak. “Er...”

“Boys,” Dad scolded with a soft chuckle.

Shay and Griffin shared a look then burst out laughing. I shook my head, forgetting my earlier perving on Shay and smacked his arm. “You guys are awful.”

“Hey.” He slid an arm around my shoulder. “We have to make sure you have a tough soldier capable of defending you if the need arises. What do you say, Griff?” And just like that, I was right back to feeling unsettled by his touch—because I craved more.

“Yeah,” Griffin replied. “Take care of our baby girl, Alan and you might live to see college.”

“Griffin!” Aunt Sarah and I scolded in unison.

“Hey, I’m just telling it like it is,” he scoffed.

Alan seemed to recover, and he offered them a playful smile. “She’s in good hands. Promise.”

“Good.” Shay’s arm dropped away from my shoulders. He kissed my brow. “Go have fun,” he said as he stepped back.

“One more photo before you leave,” Dad called, pulling my thoughts away from Shay’s gentle words and soft lips against my heated skin. “Shay, Griffin, get in behind them.”

Instead of doing as he asked, Shay stepped in between me and Alan, ignored his frown and slipped his arm around my waist. When I glanced up, he winked before turning to look at the camera. I begged my mind to stop thinking up all the naughty scenarios behind the reason for his actions. Yet, I couldn’t help wondering what it would feel like to have his thick pink lips settle over mine...

“Let’s get one of you and Shay together, Angel,” Dad pulled my thoughts out of the gutter.

But as Alan and Griffin stepped away, Shay and I shared a look and the warmth in his eyes only seemed to heighten the effect of his hand on my waist. Dad’s camera clicked, drawing my attention.

“We weren’t ready, Dad.” I swallowed against the dryness lining my throat.

“Looks perfect to me.” He smiled before turning to Griffin. “Join Shay and Skye, son.”

Griffin moved in next to me. After, Aunt Sarah bustled Alan and I outside. He surprised me by opening the car door, checking my seatbelt and asking if I was comfortable.

While I waited for him to walk around to his side, I looked up to the house. Shay stood on the porch. With his hands folded across his chest, one shoulder pressed into a pillar, he watched us. I waved and he lifted a hand in response, his smile wide.

Nyla talked about losing our virginity tonight. Her date had even booked a hotel. Laika and I hadn’t reached a decision of how we felt yet and when Alan brought it up, I said I’d think about it. Now, I found myself wishing for something that couldn’t happen, not in a million years. I sighed into the silence that settled between Alan and I as he drove until he blasted the car with music, I didn’t think he listened to—the night just got longer.

Part of me wanted to forget the prom, jump out of the car and spend that time with Shay instead. The other part, the devil in my panties one, cryptically warned I’d go to hell if I continued to crave these illicit desires. That I should turn my head and look at my date—someone who liked me and not off limits, unlike Shay.

If only he weren’t...
