“Maybe, go visit him first and take it one step at a time.”
I nodded. “Can I ask a favor?”
“Sure.”
“If I do decide to go home and invite Sianna to go with me, are you okay with her taking time off from the restaurant?”
“You want to take my star employee?” His stern statement made light with a low chuckle.
“Sorry, cuz. I know it’s a busy time of the year for you. “I raked a hand through my hair. “I just think having her with me might help.” I lifted my shoulders in a slight shrug.
He eyed me for a couple of seconds, then sat up in his chair. “I don’t have an issue with it. Anyway, I owe her a ton of personal time.”
“And she’s been awesome with your kids.”
He laughed. “Yeah, there’s that too. I’m sure between the other guys and me, we can work it out.”
“Thanks, man, I owe you.”
“Considering you’ve added a colorful menu to the list of cocktails our clients seem to enjoy, I think we’re kind of even on that front. Do you want to tell Sianna, or should I?”
I laughed at his skeptical look. We both knew Sianna hated decisions being made for her. Fiercely independent, she preferred the company of her cousin to outsiders, especially during the holidays. “Let me visit Dad first, check if he’s okay with it, then I’ll ask her. Or maybe I’ll just ask her tonight before I visit him.” I shrugged.
“And how did the whole proposal thing go down yesterday?”
Lacing my hands behind my head, I stared up at the ceiling. “She said no.” While it wasn’t the response I’d expected, I respected her wishes.
Trent’s brow creased. “But she’s wearing your ring. She was showing it to Nessa when I walked in on them this morning.”
“She promised to wear it as long as I didn’t tell anyone that I proposed and that she turned me down.”
“I don’t understand.”
Rubbing both my palms down my face, I leaned forward and rested my elbows on the table. “There’s one thing I love about Sianna. She doesn’t like to be pushed into decisions and prefers to make up her mind when she’s ready. While I assumed four months was more than enough time between us for a proposal, she thinks we need another four at least. She’s wearing the ring to make me happy. Calling herself my girl.” I grinned.
“Can’t say I’m not surprised. Given that, you think she’ll agree to go back home with you.”
“A case of crossing that bridge when I come to it.” Between my family and Sianna, I had my work cut out for me.
