When I entered my room, the overpowering stench made me gag. “Oh, God.” The frogs were gone, but the bed and carpet were still wet. Adam had promised he’d have it sorted in the morning. “So, where do I sleep tonight.” I eyed the room skeptically. While the plush carpet was no doubt comfortable, there was no way my stomach would withstand the smell enough for me to doze off. As I contemplated my dilemma, my mobile rang in my pocket. “Hey, Trent, pretty late for a check-in,” I answered on the third ring.

“Hey, Sianna, sorry for the midnight call, but I need some urgent information.”

“Sure. What can I do?”

“By the way, how’s it going with the kids?”

“Oh, we got off to a rocky start, but all good now.”

“That’s great. Thanks again, I owe you.”

“All in a day’s work, boss.” I laughed. If only he knew the crap I’d endured through today.

“The information I need is in my study. It’s probably in the desk draw on the right. I could be wrong. You might need to look for it.”

“Sure thing.” As he explained what he needed, I exited my room and headed downstairs. Another ten minutes, and I was still rifling through the draws with no luck. If I knew my boss, it was probably back at the office.

“What the hell are you doing?”

I jumped at the abrupt yell and spun around. Rayden’s large frame filled the doorway. The light from the passage behind him created a halo, hiding his face.

“I’m looking for some documents.”

He walked further into the dimly lit room, and I immediately balked. His grim features, a stark contrast to the smiling man I’d met earlier. “This is a private room.”

I recoiled at the anger in his voice. So, the handsome man wasn’t all charm. Tossing my hair over my shoulder, I tilted my chin and returned the scowl he lavished on me. “I’m well aware this is a private room, but I need to find some—”

“Nannies should stick to their day jobs and not interfere where they don’t belong.” He glared at me. His voice dripping sarcasm.

Did he seriously just call me a nanny. Bewildered, I frowned. “Nanny?” Surely Trent would’ve mentioned me.

He took a step closer. Arms crossed over his chest. “That’s what I said.”

“But Tr—”

“Out. Now,” it was a command, not a request. His finger pointed at the door, he scowled at me.

What exactly did he think I wanted in Trent’s study? My disgust at his behavior seeped through my next words. “I just need that last will a—”

“Will?” he snapped. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave now.”

Rage stiffened my shoulders. “How dare you?”

With speed I hadn’t anticipated, he closed the gap between us. “How dare I? How dare you?” he barked. “This room is off-limits to staff, and you’re not welcome here. So, leave before I do something ungentlemanly.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me?” As we stood there staring each other down, I couldn’t stop the sharp inhale. God, the man smelled so damn good. I was suddenly conscious of his proximity. Even in anger, he was riveting. Whether I accepted it or not, an unspoken electrical charge sparked between us. Rayden’s nearness affected me in the most bizarre way, and my cousin’s comments about getting laid clogged my brain with an abrupt detour I wasn’t expecting. I had a sudden urge to kiss the asshole.Oh, God. Did I just think that?

Drawing in a deep breath, I did the ladylike thing and conceded. For the simple reason that if I stayed, I’d probably end up begging him to fuck me over Trent’s desk. Without a word, I walked out. Let my boss deal with his cousin.

Upstairs, I fumed for a little while before the idea that Trent’s room was empty popped into my head. I could sleep there. After a quick brush of my teeth, I changed into pj's and dived under the covers. Just in case Neha looked for me, I left the door ajar. I’d just found a comfortable spot when the door flew open. Startled, I looked up. Rayden stood there. The room flooded with brightness when he hit the light switch.

I sat up, pulling the covers to my chin. “Now what?”

“What are you doing in here?” he asked, nearing the bed.

“What does it look like I am doing?” I goaded, irritation giving me an instant headache.

“This room is off-limits.”
