I brushed my fingers mindlessly through her hair. “I got my Glasgow scars during my last deployment before my medical discharge.”
I paused and waited for her to react in any sort of way, but she didn’t. All she did was give space for my words.
I touched a part of me that had never been touched before.
“We lost everyone on that deployment,” I muttered as the memories threatened to undo me right there beneath her. I stared up hard at the ceiling. “I’d fallen asleep at my post, and the enemy had breached the front gate. I didn’t even realize?—”
I felt her lips kiss the scars along my chest, and it loosened my tightening lips.
“I didn’t even realize my people were in trouble until it was too late. And when I left my post and realized the damage that was already done, I blacked out. There’s so much of it that I don’t remember. So many bodies that I dropped. They gave me a medal for it, so it must’ve been a sight. But…”
“I’ve got you,” she whispered as she nuzzled her face into the crook of my neck.
I threaded my fingers into her hair and turned her head so that I could kiss those perfect, unblemished lips of hers.
I’d never understand how she tolerated kissing me.
“But,” I whispered before I kissed the tip of her nose, “when my memories kick in again, I’m on my knees among the ruins of base. Somehow in my quest to annihilate everyone that had breached base, they captured me. The pain of the first scar is what drew me back to reality. But it wasn’t until after they had twisted me around to carve the second scar into the other side of my mouth that I was at an angle to pull one of their guns off their hips. Ended up giving their brains the pleasure of knowing what sand felt like.”
“My God, Gee,” she said breathlessly.
I nuzzled my nose into her hair. “Sorry, my little firefly. I know that was graphic.”
She just shook her head. “It’s what you went through, there’s no need to be sorry, Gee. I’m sorry you ever had to go through it.”
I wasn’t sure how in the hell I didn’t hear the footsteps that approached my clubhouse room. I always heard everyone coming and going. But I didn’t even realize someone was at my fucking door until I heard a massive knock.
Just a singular knock.
Before a familiar voice.
“Church in ten,” Cap said before I heard him swaggering away.
Man, this woman had really gotten to me if I couldn’t even clock footsteps around us any longer.
I’d have to do something about my attention span after sex.
Either that or find more private areas for sex.
“All right,” I said with a grunt as I sat up with her still leaned against me, “I gotta find my shirt.”
“Booooo,” she said playfully as she buried her face into my shoulder, “shirts are no fun.”
I snickered as I held her to me, peering over the edge of the bed. “Ah, there it is.”
“Will you be back soon?”
I lifted my gaze back to her face before grabbing her hair, tilting her lips to mine, and crashing our mouths together. Feeling her give to me was something I’d never get over. Feeling the way she melted into me with the slide of my tongue along the roof of her mouth was infatuating. She was so responsive to me.
I craved that.
“Be back soon,” I whispered against her lips before I rolled her over, tucking her into bed.
I got up, slipped on my boots, and headed for the basement of the clubhouse.
