He nodded. “Understood.”
“Good,” I said as I tapped my earpiece, turning it back on. “Now, let’s go get in our places. It’s almost time for them to start showing up.”
I patted Bender’s back as he jogged across the darkness of the unlit docks, and I couldn’t wait to play the darkness against Bullet. He thought the darkness would keep him shrouded while he unloaded all of those helpless women. But what he didn’t know was that I was in the darkness as well. I was seated right in the middle of the trap. And if there was one thing no one ever put in a trap if they wanted to live, it was me. So, I tucked myself against the building I told my men I’d occupy… and I waited.
Then, fifteen minutes later…
“Inbound,” Reaper whispered.
I looked up at the rooftop where Angel was. “Got them in my scope. They’re coming up to the gate.”
“Places, everyone,” I murmured, “and don’t move a muscle until those girls are touching the docks.”
I watched as a dark van pulled up. Three of them, actually. It made me wonder how many women they would escort back to their wretched place that night. I took stock of the one van we had brought and wondered if I might be able to nick one of their vans to help us get the women to Nadia’s shelter once it was all said and done.
But I forced those future plans out of my head.
Because we didn’t have a future if Bullet killed us first.
Watching those men laugh and high-five one another was disgusting. My stomach turned over onto itself as bile threatened to taint my throat. Men like them were the scourge of the planet and needed to be wiped from it, as far as I was concerned. And I was more than willing to do my part in keeping that balance. It made me feel better about what we were planning, honestly.
Because watching those men have the time of their lives while enslaving women for torture only confirmed that they didn’t deserve to live.
“They’re opening the container,” Viper whispered softly.
“Don’t. Move,” I murmured.
“The lock is off,” Angel said.
“I’ve got the dock explosives ready,” Reaper said.
“Everyone, hold,” I hissed.
My eyes hooked onto the container as Bullet slid the lock away. The massive metal doors creaked open in the darkness of the dock, and I had to squint in order to see what in the hell was going on. Bullet entered and a bunch of soft cries came from the inside. I resisted the urge to creep closer as another man walked in. Then, another.
And the second Bullet yanked the first battered woman out with him, I cupped my hand over my earpiece.
“Angel? Viper? Keep your guns trained on him,” I murmured.
“Let me know when you need the getaway,” Reaper said.
I nodded as I stepped out of the darkness, clad from head to toe in weapons. “You know I will.”
The guys laughed and tossed the woman around as they gripped her chin to inspect her. The scene unfolding made me nauseous, but it also made me angry. I balled my fists up at my sides as my boots clicked against the dock. Everyone froze, slowly turning toward the intrusive sound as one of the guys shoved the poor woman onto the ground.
And as they gathered in front of the woman, Bullet was quick to push his way to the forefront.
“You know,” he said with a sly smirk, “I just knew you’d show up tonight.”
“The shock in your eyes says otherwise,” I glowered as I stared him down.
His men looked at him, and I could tell it pissed him off. But he did a damn good job of covering it up on his face.
“So,” he said before he sucked air through his teeth, “to what do I owe this… pleasure?”
“This is the end of the line for you, Bullet.”
He chuckled. “I’m sure you think so.”
