“That’s enough, Angel,” Fangs said flatly.
“And from one person to another that almost lost someone to them?” Angel asked as he stared me down. “I’m telling you right now, we’re doing what we can to stop them. To get them out of our town for good. So, you can either let us help you and stick with us, or you can take your chances on the street getting to the hospital. But either way? Fangs didn’t have to do what he did for you guys. So, show a little bit of respect while we offer up our resources to make sure the two of you are all right.”
“Angel!” Fangs bellowed.
I held my hand up. “He’s right.”
The entire room went silent except for my sister, who cackled like a god damn witch.
“She never says that. Wow.”
I shot my sister a look, but damn it, it was good to hear her laugh. “He is, though.”
Tee snickered. “I know! You just didn’t know yet.”
Goose peeked up at me. “I found the wound that was bleeding.”
My attention turned to him. “You did? Is it bad?”
He shook his head. “She’ll need stitches, but it’s not bad. In fact, most everything she’s got is pretty topical. Maybe ten stitches, a couple of butterfly closures here and there, and all she’ll need is a lot of rest in order to heal from the rest of it.”
My shoulders slumped with relief. “Thank you.”
Tee burst out laughing again. “She never says that, either.”
The men chuckled around me and a grin spread across my face. “You got something to knock her out?”
Goose nodded. “I do.”
“Drugs! Weeee!” Tee exclaimed.
I walked over to my sister and placed a kiss on her forehead. “Sweet dreams, okay?”
Then, I looked up at Goose and sighed.
“Let’s give her some. I think she could use some rest.”
He smiled, and the smile was more than genuine. It was kind. And as I studied all of the men that had gathered to ogle over us, that’s exactly what I found.
I found us surrounded with gruff faces and leather jackets that were pulled over bodies that housed kind men.
Not the sadists my sister and I had endured.
“One shot of sleep, coming right up,” Goose said.
“What else do you need, man?” Angel asked.
“I need my suture kit from under my bed, some more gauze, and another fistful of those alcohol wipes. That should do it for now.”
I watched as he slid the drugs into my sister’s arm with a needle.
“There we go,” Goose said as he plunged the medicine into her system, “that should take hold in a few—”
Tee yawned. “Man, I’m tired.”
Goose chuckled. “—seconds.”
I brushed my sister’s hair back. “You just sleep, and I’ll be right here when you wake up. Okay?”
