He leveled his gaze with mine. “We have more unfinished business to discuss if you want me signing anything near what you’ve put in that divorce decree. And that conversation doesn’t require your attack dog.”
Blake took a few steps toward me, and Caleb shifted, stepping in front of me once more.
“You’re close enough,” he said.
But my husband reached around Caleb’s body and yanked my wrist.
“Ah!” I exclaimed as I stumbled toward him.
“You’re coming with me,” Blake grumbled.
Caleb put that gun straight to the man’s forehead. “Let her go. Right now.”
Blake grinned. “What, you going to shoot me in a parking garage in broad daylight?”
I watched as Caleb slowly raked the barrel of that gun down Blake’s face. I watched it travel down to his chest, but it didn’t stop there. My gaze followed the trail it left behind on Blake’s very expensive suit.
The second the barrel of that gun stopped at the man’s crotch, however, fear brushed past Blake’s heated stare.
“You wouldn’t dare,” he glowered.
Caleb removed my wrist from the man’s grip before slipping his arm around my waist. He pulled me back to his side, cradling me against a mound of muscles my fingertips wanted to explore. Heat crept up my spine, holding me hostage as I leaned my head into his chest.
I treasured the contact for as long as possible until Caleb spoke again.
“I’d appreciate it if you took your hands off my fiancée. And if you can do that, then I’ll take my gun off your cock.”
And as shock rolled over Blake’s features, I tried my best not to look just as shocked.
But holy fucking hell, did I ever feel relieved.

REAPER
Rose isn’t safe.
What possessed me to tell that asshole that we were engaged probably had something to do with him stalking her from the god damn darkness, but as they hung in the air between us, Rose sighed.
I heard her sigh with relief.
Rose isn’t safe here.
“You’re what?” Blake spat.
I smirked. “Didn’t you hear me the first time? Or are you too preoccupied with the feeling of my gun to your dick?”
His eyes darted down to my side, where Rose stood. “What the fuck is he going on about?”
I pressed the gun further into his ballsack. “Eyes up here.”
Blake hissed in pain as Rose smiled brightly. “You know, once I was able to get away from you, the first person I wanted to see was Caleb. You took my very best friendship away from me. The only person I’ve ever trusted. And the second I got my new place, I wanted him to come over and see it. I wanted him to see the backbone I had grown. I wanted him to see how strong I had become and that I was worthy of being his friend again.”
The words broke my heart, but she kept on going like it was nothing.
“Things came back easily, too. Things were always easy with us, and I think that killed you inside, Blake. You hated the fact that I wanted to talk with him about big stuff instead of you. You hated the fact that I called him for help instead of you. And it didn’t take our friendship long to morph into something much more than anything I could have ever expected.”
His eyes darted down to her hands. “I don’t see a ring on that finger.”
