He shook his head. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Answer my question, or I’ll find someone who will. Preferably, a lawyer, so I can make sure I know what my rights are when asking these kinds of questions.”
Jason chewed on the inside of his cheek. “These guys are dangerous.”
“Again, I can handle myself, thanks. So, bail. When is it set?”
He rolled his eyes. “It won’t be set for a few hours. They’ll probably be in there for at least the evening.”
“Do I need to remind you of that lawyer I can call? Because I’m pretty sure that’s not how bail works. It should be set within—”
“Jesus Christ, woman, fine,” Jason spat. “It’ll be set in a couple of hours.”
I smiled brightly. “Wonderful. I’ll be waiting out here in those chairs until it’s set. Let me know, would you?”
And as I backtracked toward the chairs, I made sure to sit right in their line of sight.
So they were reminded of the bullshit I’d throw their way if they didn’t stick to their own fucking rules.
NINE
BENDER
“Sit,” the officer said as he shoved me into a chair.
I chuckled as I tossed him a grin. “Don’t mind if I do.”
Fangs got shoved down beside me. “Great. Just fucking grand.”
And out of nowhere, that woman’s piercing voice filtered through the door we had just walked through.
“Huh,” I murmured.
“What?” Fangs asked flatly.
I listened to her practically lay into the officers in the front office and it tugged a smirk across my cheeks. She was a spitfire, I’d give her that. Though, Aria wasn’t necessarily an apt name for a woman with that type of fire in her gut. Still, it suited her, and as I listened to her give those officers the runaround, I found myself even more attracted to her.
I’d love to stuff that mouth of hers full.
I heard her mentioning bail before the officers ripped Fangs and myself out of our chairs, and the last thing I heard was that she’d be waiting in the front office for it to be posted. I wanted to strangle the woman. Now that they knew someone was waiting for us, they’d delay the process as much as possible. She obviously didn’t know how police really worked. How much they broke their own rules and how she’d just made our lives im-fucking-possible with her breathing down their necks.
And as Fangs and I were tossed into two separate interrogation rooms, I resolved myself to a night in a holding cell.
I wasn’t sure how long I sat there with my hands cuffed around behind my back. I wasn’t sure if Fangs was already being questioned, or if they were trying to smoke us out. Either way, one of the first things we all learned as prospects was how to handle police interrogations.
Which meant they wouldn’t get shit out of us.
After what felt like an eternity of waiting, the door in front of me finally opened. A tall, lanky man with auburn hair and beady little eyes stood in front of me, and I found myself intrigued by him. My gaze found his nametag and the name ‘Officer Jason Burke’ stared back at me.
But the way he looked at me told me everything I needed to know.
Ah, you’ve fucked Aria before.
I had to admit, I was more than intrigued. He closed the door behind him and brandished a set of handcuff keys before coming around and unlocking them. I figured that was it, that I’d be free to move my arms however I wished. But instead of leaving me free, he simply brought my arms around to the front of my body.
Before cuffing my wrists to the bolted-down table.
“Seriously?” I asked.
