The second I said the name, he barked with laughter. He threw his head back and laughed right in my fucking face, and I sure as hell didn’t appreciate it.

“What?” I asked flatly.

Jason shook his head. “Even if I had information to give you—which I don’t in the first place—I can’t hand out information pertaining to an active investigation.”

I blinked. “So, they are being investigated.”

I flipped open my notebook and jotted that down as he took a step toward me.

“Aria, you’re sticking your nose in something where you don’t belong. I’m telling you, don’t pursue whatever story you believe you’re chasing. Things with that club are never what they seem.”

I continued writing. “So, you’re familiar with the Steel Scorpions. Anything else you can tell me?”

Just as I looked back up into his face, the front door burst open. Chaos ensued and Jason whipped himself around before charging toward the officers congregating at the doorway. I craned my neck to try and see what the hell was going on. Jason had always been a talker, and I knew that if I could get a few more minutes of his time, I’d have more information than I knew what to do with.

Except, the second my eyes locked with that man from the clubhouse, I froze.

What the hell is he doing here?

His brooding brown eyes locked with mine and I could’ve sworn I saw a grin tick his cheeks. His disheveled dark brown hair swayed against his forehead while the officer who had him handcuffed shoved him along. There was another man with him, one that I recognized as Fangs.

“Their president is here,” I whispered softly to myself.

I started toward them only for an officer to reach his arm out and stop me. I held that man’s dark, brooding gaze until they were both ushered through a door that slammed quickly shut behind them. I placed my hand on the officer’s arm, trying to garner as much information as I could from the situation that had unfolded.

Then, I drew in a deep breath. “What in the world happened there?”

“Nothing you need to be concerned with,” the officer said.

My investigative instincts began to itch. “Why were they arrested?”

And when the officer didn’t answer me, I dug my press badge out of my purse.

“See? This is me. Now, why were they arrested?”

The officer dropped his arm. “Get the hell out of here before I throw you out.”

I scoffed at the officer as he pointed me toward the door, then everyone dissipated and moved to their own areas as quickly as they had flooded the doorway. I needed to get that man alone. Hell, I needed to get both of them alone. If the police wouldn't talk to me and my boss wouldn't hear me out, then the only source of information I had was the man with the dark, angry eyes.

And the only way I could get access to him was to bail him out.

“When will bail be set?” I asked as I strode up to the officer behind the front desk.

He blinked. “You’re kidding, right?”

I shook my head. “No, I’m not. When is bail set for the two of them?”

Jason walked through a door behind the officer I was speaking with. “Is she still bothering you?”

The front desk officer chuckled. “She wants to know when the gang-bangers bail will be set.”

Jason rolled his eyes. “Get the hell out of here, Aria, before you hurt yourself.”

“That’s no longer your concern.”

“It is when I’m wearing this uniform. Everyone’s safety in this town is my concern.”

“Is that why you arrested those men?” I asked as my gaze flickered in his direction. “Because they’re risks to the people of Twin Bays?”
