Her heart warmed. “Yeah. Well. Romantasy isn’t all that I read while traveling. I really do love BME, so I have been reading and keeping up to date with everything.”

His eyes widened, and his jaw dropped. “Wait until I tell Vishal and Karan thatyou read professional journals!”

“You do that,” she said, narrowing her eyes, “and I’ll tell them about your romantasy obsession.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“Try me. They’re like my bro—” She stopped. “They’re likely to be interested.”

Roshan held her gaze for a bit. “Are you going to take it?”

“Duh. Yes. I played the two offers against each other, and this is the position I really wanted. I’m going to buy a used car, but it might be a bit until I save enough for a house. Though I have some money saved up from Wanderlust. I had so few expenses while I worked there, no rent or mortgage or…” She was rambling.

“You are certainly making it happen.” Roshan’s face fell, just the tiniest bit. If she hadn’t known that face so well, she might have missed it.

“I should go. I know you have to be at the hospital.” She forced herself to remove her legs from his lap and once she did, she missed him desperately.

“I’ll see you tonight for woodworking?” he said as she went to the door.

“Of course.” She grinned. “Third time’s a charm. What time?”

“I’ll be done early. 6:00 p.m. I’ll come straight to Reena’s to get you.”

“You just want baby cuddle time.”

“Darn right.” He chuckled. “Do you need a ride home?”

“I’m good.”

She waited until she was few blocks away before making the phone call. “Mali? He’s going to be at work until six, and then he’s coming to get me and we’re going woodworking.”

Chapter Twenty-six

He hadn’t really expected to enjoy woodworking, let alone be adept at it. But there it was. A beautiful set of bookends.

“Nicely done, Dr. Dave,” Nimita said. Was that a sigh of relief she let out?

“What’s the matter? Tired of crafting with me already?” he teased.

“Never,” she said. “I’m just glad that you seemed to actually enjoy this activity as well as the final result.”

“I think I have my thing,” he said triumphantly. “I may even branch out and join a rec soccer team.”

They walked out into a pleasantly warm evening. He automatically looked up into the night sky.

“Orion,” Nimita said.

He didn’t hide his surprise. “Yes.”

“Taurus next to it.”

“Yes.”

“Don’t sound so surprised. I told you that I was familiar with the sky,” she said. “That’s something we have in common.”

He rubbed the shell in his pocket, reminding him of their time stargazing on the beach. It was always with him. “It is.” He opened the door for her, and she sat down. He started the car.

“How about a walk on the beach?” Nimita suggested.
