“Fine. She’s stronger than she looks.”

“I don’t care what you get up to or who you fuck, but Beast might have a problem with it.”

“He won’t fire her over it.”

“I know, doesn’t mean he won’t be on your ass about it. It serious?”

“Not sure,” I eye the door, not that I think she would be eavesdropping. Nero doesn’t miss it.

“It wasn’t too long ago I felt the same way.”

A few seconds pass before I understand what he’s getting at. I go to protest but what would be the point. Nero has this uncanny ability to see inside people’s heads. Sometimes, it’s like he knows what other people are thinking before they do.

Well, jokes on him, cos I haven’t got a fucking clue how to feel about what is going on with Charley.

“Shit sneaks up on you. And next thing you know-”

“Do not say what I think you’re goingto say.”

Just because he got himself an Old Lady doesn’t mean that is what this is. I’m still fully aware that I’m almost a decade older than her. We can have fun, see how things go, it doesn’t mean she’s going to become that big of a fixture.

Shit, that feels bad just thinking it. Nero is watching me with one of those looks of his that makes me want to rip out my own eyeballs for seeing it.

“Cantrell is gone,” he changes the subject, kind of.

At least he’s not giving me shit about having an Old Lady anymore.

“I’ve got one of the guys from the Sacramento chapter on his ass. He’ll keep an eye on him.”

“Thanks.”

He nods his head in acknowledgement. “I called Camden this morning.”

That makes me sit up a little taller. Nero wouldn’t usually do something like that. He’s tasked me with finding Sheridan, that means he stays out of it.

“He has a lead. He said he was going to call you.”

Well, I haven’t looked at my phone yet today. Nero sees that too. Fucking psychic.

“If he needs you to go down there.”

“Absolutely, not an issue.”

“Blaze will book you a flight.”

That means Camden has more than Nero is letting on. We both get up and Nero tosses something to me, I catch it with one hand. It’s the keys to my bike.

“Razer found these in the back room last night. Must have fallen out in the scuffle. I guess it’s lucky she had the keys to your SUV.”

“Fucking hell.”

He laughs. Asshole. “I’ll get Taylor to come round if you’re gone a while.”

“Nope, don’t do that.”

“She’ll love it, meeting a new friend.”

“Fuck, Prez come on,” I hold out my hands. Meeting his Old Lady means something more than either of us are ready for.
