“I-I’m fine.”
Calderone scoffed.“Yes and all that blood means nothing.”He looked over at Willow.
She nodded.“I agree, let’s at least try to get him bandaged better.”
They paused in the kitchen.
Willow saw the foot of the dead man but she just pressed her lips together and didn’t say a word. She just looked away.
Calderone smiled slightly. He knew she was a strong woman and wouldn’t freak out, not yet.Maybe later but not right now.He reached up into a cabinet and saw the kit.He brought it down.
Jordy hung onto the counter.
“Let’s take him to the salon area,” Willow suggested as she still managed to avoid looking at the dead guy on the floor.
After a few minutes in the salon, the couple finished the medical care that they could give him.Peroxide on the cut and wiping it away.Antibiotic ointment then a sealing bandage.Willow then taped a larger gauze bandage over that one.She grabbed a small bottle from the kit and handed Jordy a few aspirins.“It’s all we got.”
“No, that’s fine.”Jordy nodded.“I don’t like narcotics or pain killers.”He dry-swallowed the pills as he looked up at Calderone.“Any movement outside?”
He stood by the window and was already checking.“No, not that I can see.Hopefully, we can get away clean.I’d rather not start a gunfight in the open.I don’t want to put any innocents in the middle of this.”
Willow groaned.“That would be terrible.”
Jordy nodded and walked down the hall with their help.
They found the door to the garage.
Calderone settled both Willow and Jordy into the back seat. Then he got behind the wheel and remotely opened the garage door.He paused to make a visual search around the safe house and down the block. He didn’t see anyone so he rolled the vehicle out of the garage.Calderone watched all sides at every corner of the street as they drove away.He didn’t turn the lights on as he headed the car down the street and they disappeared into the general traffic.
He was careful but his weapon sat on his seat, loaded and ready to be used in a heartbeat if trouble came after them.
Chapter Two
He was almost awayand in the clear when his phone rang.He hit the talk button and then put that call on speaker to clear his hands.“Ciao?”
The Don’s voice came over the line, “Did you find your woman?”
