“Not at the moment. He’s not listening to my suggestions.”

“Get a plan in motion and let me know.”

The fucker hangs up and I ache to smash the shit out of my phone. As much as the asshole annoys the shit out of me most of the time, he’s an asset to the club. It’s been a while since I stopped seeing him a kid, and saw him for the man he’s become.I’d trust him at my side as much as I do his older brother. The fucker can fight and has less fear than I do.

Heading over to the garages, I open the secret floor hatch and take out three boxes of ammunition and store one each in mine and the twins saddlebags. Every inch of this place is in my blood, it’s all I’ve ever known and I have no interest in it ever changing. But this place won’t be the same if we don’t bring Leo back. Dad would be right, I would know what the old timers feel after losing such a close brother. But unlike them, I’m not going to let it happen. Over my dead body will Hopper take out my best friend and my brother.

“This is fuckin’ bullshit,” Myles repeats himself for the tenth time in the last hour.

I keep my mouth shut and he goes on to say, “If Grumps was still here, he would have backed JJ in there.”

“If Grumps was still here, he might have backed Cas, he spent years trusting Cas as president,” I point out.

“Nah, as old as he was, he was about the club moving forward and sticking to its ways. JJ is VP, we should all be following him. Cas included.”

“Jay will come through.”

Myles rolls his eyes. “Doesn’t look like he’s gonna do shit, brother.”

“Nah, he just works differently. He'll come through, you wait and see. It won’t be Cas who brings our president home.”

“Cas is hardcore, Mase. I don’t know who to put my money on.”

“The only safe bet is if Leo doesn’t come home alive, there’ll be a fight for the president’s patch and shit around here is gonna get dark.”

We pound fists, and I head for my house, and he crosses the street and heads up his front path.

We were sat on our asses at the club and neither of us were interested in watching the drama escalate between VP and ex-president. We both decided our old ladies needed us more until Cas or JJ decide to make a move and we’re called in to finally do something.

I let myself in and Frankie and Freddie are both awake and happily kicking their legs at one another as they lay on the play-mat on the living room floor.

“Do not come in and rile them up. This is the first time in days they’re both not crying the place down.”

I turn and Aspen is coming out of the kitchen with a bottle of milk in each hand. She tried breastfeeding but with the demand of two babies, it was stressing her out and every attempt ended in tears. Hers and the babies. At least I can help with bottle feeding.

She passes me a bottle and leans up to kiss me. “I thought you’d be at the club until Leo was back.”

“We would have been but shit is up in the air and nothin’ is gettin’ done.”

“I’m not going to complain.” She smiles.

On cue, both babies begin to whinge and Aspen and I pick up a kid each and the silence returns.

“What do you think is going to happen?” she asks while both babies drink their milk.

“I have no idea, but me and Myles will always be okay. You don’t have to worry about anything.”

“I’m not worried.” She grins. “To be honest, I don’t have the time to.”

At least it’s one less thingIneed to worry about.

“Your mom stopped by this morning. She looks like she hasn’t slept in weeks. I thought she was coping but I think she’s learned to hide it well.”

“I heard Kristen showed up the other night, she was already awake when she got there. I offered to get her some sleeping pills but she wasn’t interested.”
