“That I could have looked past.” I wave my hand dismissively. “It’s the fact you touched what doesn’t belong to you. You touched what’s mine. And for that, you had to die.”

“You’re fucking crazy!”

“Oh you have no idea.” My lips form a cruel smile. “Time to go.”

With a snap of my fingers, he’s gone.

Leaving the mayhem behind me, I set out to find my mate.

I find him in a little coffee shop a few blocks down. Standing in the window, I watch him talk to the barista. The man leans in, flashing him a bright smile.

My hands fist at my side. Is this what Onyx has been getting up to while I’ve been away? Flirting with other men. He’s mine. No one else is allowed to fucking touch him!

Narrowing my eyes, I focus on the espresso machine. It starts to shake, people around them look over in concern. The guy’s smile is gone, mixed with fear.

Good. Be afraid, fucker.

The thing is about to explode. Hopefully it doesn’t kill the whole shop. I don’t want to upset Lucifer. I gave him my word of no more early demises of souls, and I’ve already gone back on my word once, and I’m about to do it again.

I just want the barista. If Onyx is caught in the cross fire, then that makes this easier for me.

Just as the thing is about to take the barista out, another employee pulls the plug.

“For fuck sakes.” I growl. “Can’t a man murder people without someone intervening? It’s getting old fast.”

Onyx takes his coffee and rushes out of the building.

“What the hell is going on today?” he mutters to himself as he takes off down the sidewalk.

Anger boils inside me, my hand twitching to just flick my wrist and snap his damn neck.

My attention is pulled back towards the barista behind the bar. He talks to the girl, both of them looking shaken.

Unsure if I should continue following Onyx, or settle the situation here, I look at his retreating back then over to the barista.

“I know if I don’t take care of this now, it’s going to bug me later.” I growl with annoyance.

Letting my shadows free, they flow from my hands and make their way into the shop. Wrapping around the man's neck, I feel a wave of warm glee as I watch him claw at his throat, choking, eyes going wide in pure terror as he tries to understand what's going on.

People try to help, but there's nothing they can do. I watch as the fight leaves him, the light in his eyes fading.

When his body hits the ground, I don’t even wait for his spirit to fully retreat before I send it to Hell and right into the keeper's hands.

“Now, if people would kindly fuck off and stop getting in my way, I can kill the man I’m here for and stop taking useless lives.” I grumble, continuing down the street in Onyx’s direction.

He is a slippery one. It’s almost like something doesn’t want him to die.

I cast a glance up at the sky. “If one of you angel fuckers are interfering, lay off. It’s none of your business.” I hiss.

Onyx will be dead by the end of the day. It’s only a matter of time.

Onyx

Fuck, the last few days have been so weird. I even started wearing glasses to hide from whatever karma god is out there trying to strike me down.
