The guy rolls off him while he stares at fallen branches, eyes widened with a mix of fear and relief.
“Are you okay man?” The guy gets to his feet, dusts himself off and offers his hand out to Onyx. “That was a close one.”
He lets out a breath and the moment his hand makes contact with the guys, I see fucking red. “Thanks.” The guy pulls him to his feet. “I can’t believe that just happened. I almost died.”
“That’s wild.” The guy chuckles, patting Onyx’s shoulder.
My teeth grind together. How fucking dare he touch what’s mine. The way he just threw him to the ground. He could have hurt him!
“Thanks again.” Onyx looks at the branch in disbelief, running his hand through his hair as he lets out a breath.
“Be careful out there.” The guy calls out. “Stay alert. You never know what might happen next.”
“Yeah.” Onyx nods. “Thanks.”
He continues down the road. I wait until he’s out of sight before turning my blazing gaze on the man.
He talks to a few people, laughing and smiling, in disbelief over what just happened.
He waves goodbye to the bystanders and looks both ways before crossing the street.
Not so fast.
Chuckling when I see a car approaching, getting ready to slow down for the pedestrians, I use my magic to cut the brake lines.
The car keeps going and going, and just as the man steps in its path, bang. A sick satisfaction rushes through me as his body goes flying through the air and hits the ground with a loud splat.
Chaos erupts around me, people shouting to call 911. The driver of the car crashes into a nearby pole. Oops. Ah, two-for-one special today I guess.
My boots pound against the asphalt as I make my way over to the man's broken body.
People kneel beside him, crying, screaming for help. I remain calm, relaxed, eager to get this asshole's soul and leave.
I watch as it rises from his body. He stands next to his corpse, in shock, disbelief.
“You.” I growl, catching his attention.
His head snaps over to me. “What’s going on?”
“You’re dead.” I tell him point blank.
“Why?” he asks. “I checked both ways. There were no cars.”
“Guess you should have looked into getting your eyes checked.” I huff.
“You did this.” he accuses me. “Who are you anyways?”
“Oh no, you caught me.” I chuckle, raising my hands. “So what if I did this? You deserved it.”
“What did I ever do to you?” he shouts.
“You interfered with things that had nothing to do with you.”
“What do you mean?” he shouts.
“You saved that man.” I growl.
“So I deserve to die for it?” he asks in confusion. “What the hell, man?”
