I shook my head. “No. I just told her about herself and left. Then I went to the front office to put in a 30-day notice. I gotta just let that apartment go.”
“Okay, so let me get this straight. You hopped up and went over there cause Soya told you that he was fucking with a bitch?”
I sighed. “No, Face. I don’t care about who Too Low deals with. But I didn’t want random girls in something attached to my name, neither. So, had that been the case, then I would’ve just asked him to leave. But Soya basically said that he wasdealing with somebody I know. Who be in my personal space. And since I
keep a small circle, I needed to know who the fuck that was, to keep them from ‘round me. That’s it. That’s all.”
“And you didn’t think that you could run that by me?” I sighed. “Not without pushback.
Shaking his head, he seemed to be in deep thought. “So, that nigga been fucking my little sister, playing shit close…”
“Right, but I don’t think that it’s that deep. Maybe he’s a little petty, but—”
“Nah.” He shook his head. “You thinking too small. Fucking my sister could irritate you, but that’s about it. It’s something else at play here.” He stroked his goatee, while his mind seemingly drifted. “Matter of fact, let me call her ass.” He grabbed his phone and called Mattie.
I stood there waiting to see if she’d answer, and she didn’t. He sat and called her several times to no avail. That’s when he sent her a voice note.
“Mattie, call me back. You already know that Babi told me what happened, and now I need you to tell me what the fucking is going on. From your own mouth. Cause you going down the wrong muthafuckin’ road.”
I rolled my eyes, and he caught it. “What chu doing ya eyes like that for?” I exhaled. “Oh, nothing.”
“Nah, nah, don’t bite your tongue. Say what’s on your mind.” “Okay.”Ifoldedmyarmsacrossmybreasts.“Yoursister’s
energy towards me was weird as fuck. Like she’s been having some weird ass animosity. She was honestly talking a lot of shit, and I think it’s because you got her feeling like she’s untouchable. Like she can say whatever she wants, and still come around, because I’m justfuckingwith you. Like several other bitches have in the past.”
He frowned. “She said that?”
“Not exactly. It was in so many words. She also mentioned that you get around on several different occasions, insinuating that’s just who you are.”
He licked his lips. “Okay. I can admit that what you’re saying aint surprising. Other women have told me something similar. And in the past, I didn’t care enough about those women to correct Mattie. But this aint that. So, I’ma holler at her about everything. And if you aint comfortable with her coming into this house, unless she apologizes, then I’m behind you a hundred percent.”
Hearing that, I released a breath I didn’t even realize that I was holding. Because if Face would’ve dismissed my feelings, then there’s no telling where that would’ve led to. Cause I definitely hadn’t been opposed to packing my bags.
“Okay, well, I want your sister to keep her distance, until me and her can sit down and have a real talk.”
Face nodded. “Then you got that.”
Face
couldn’t stop thinking about Mattie fucking with that nigga Too Low. It was fucking me up, because I thought that me and my siblings had this unspoken thing between us. They
knew that once I climbed to the top of the food chain, then they had to be extra cautious of the company they kept. And under no circumstances were they ever to fraternize with the enemy. Didn’t matter if that beef was over street shit or pussy. Beef was beef, and your family dealing with a opp left you vulnerable. Period.
Then Mattie wasn’t answering my calls, which told me that she knew she was wrong. And had me wanting to pull up on her ass to see what the fuck she’d been thinking.
I was so irritated that I was strongly considering going to my mama’s house to see if she was there, once I’d taken thegirls home. So, I pulled up in Tera’s driveway, honking my horn, ready to go to the next destination.

After a few minutes, Tera stepped out onto her porch, clad in a silk robe. “Christian, come in, for a second.” She waved me over.
I sighed, not really in the mood to socialize, before reluctantly hopping out of my car. “What’s up?” I questioned, as I trekked up the driveway.
“Comein,”sheinsisted.
“Say, look—” I started, before catching myself. I had so much other shit on my plate that I was about to revert back to the way I used to deal with her. And that wasn’t cool, so I checked myself. “What’s up, Tera?” I quizzed, as I followed her into the house.
“I just wanted to catch up,” she claimed, while I glanced around, confused.
