“Oh, really?” Dani arched a brow. “What part?” “790.”
Dani frowned. “You must be hella young, because I don’t recognize your face. Plus, I used to hang over there all the time.”
Babi shrugged. “I don’t know. How old are you?” “I’m twenty-seven.”
“Oh,well,I’mtwenty-nine.”
“No, bullshit?” My cousin Black interjected. “You twenty-nine?” He lustfully gazed at Babi.
I narrowed my eyes, peeping how thirsty all the niggas in my family had been acting today. I had two brothers, Nice and Smooth, who were twenty-three and twenty-two. Then my auntie Queenie had two sons, Black and Dank, who were thirty and thirty-two. All those niggas were as different as night and day. My little brothers hadn’t gotten into the streets, because I refused to let them go that route, after getting on my feet. I made sure that that they both graduated, before they took their asses to college. Mean-while, my cousins were the ones who’d introduced me to the game, before I surpassed them. Either way, they were still getting money. My little brothers were doing pretty well their selves. Everybody had their choice of women. Yet they’d all had been gawking at Babi like they’d never been in the company of some fine shit in their lives.
“Yeah, I’m twenty-nine,” Babi told Black.
“Damn, I honestly thought that you was a baby. No older than twenty.”
“Who are your kin people?” Dani probed.
“That nigga QT is her brother,” I spoke up, as I sat beside Babi.
“QT?” Mattie smiled. “I didn’t know his crazy ass had a sister.”
“I hear that all the time,” Babi smirked. “I’ve always been out the way. People mostly just know me for braiding hair. And if they don’t know me like that, they wouldn’t even know that he’s my brother, even then.”
Dani slid her tongue across her teeth. “You braid? You got some pictures of your work?”
Babi nodded, before producing her phone. She scrolled through something, before handing her cell to Dani.
“Oh, wow,” Dani gasped. “I love this.” She looked up at Babi. “When can I book?”
“Let me see.” Mattie grabbed the phone. “Oh, yeah.” She nodded. “I’m pulling the sis-in-law card. I need my hair done ASAP.”
“I wanna see.” Shi held out her hand. “Come see.” Mattie waved her over.
Shi stood up, and gazed over Mattie’s shoulder. “Ooh, I want my hair like that.” She pointed, before looking at me. “Daddy, can you pay her to do my hair?”
I turned to look at Babi. “Why you didn’t tell me that you do hair?”
She shrugged. “Youdidn’t ask.”
“But you could’ve been doing the girls hair, versus havingme
clean up and shit.”
She smirked. “I see that you refuse to let that go.” “Cause I won’t.”
Babi shook her head.
“So, can you do their hair tonight?” She nodded. “Yeah, I got you.”
Babi
MG, thank you, Babi,” Shi cheered, as she randomly hugged me.
“You’re welcome.” I hugged her back.
“We really love our hair,” Aspen claimed, as I released her sister.
I turned to face her, admiring my handy work. I’d braided their hair similarly in designs going to the back of their heads, while the braids extended past the middle of their backs. I’d also given them cute baby hairs, and they couldn’t stop looking at themselves in the mirror.
