Both of the girls were naturally pretty, and I definitely felt like the styles I’d given them were enhancers.
“Well, I’m glad y’all liked it,” I smiled, before lightning struck outside.
Fuck.

From where I was standing, I could hear rain pelting against the house, indicating that it was pouring down, raining outside. It was now ten o’clock, and I’d pretty much been at this house all day. Face’s family had come over around two o’clock and were all gone by seven.
I’d started on the girls’ hair around six and was just finishing. And now, I needed to head home, because Too Low had been blowing my phone up. Since I’d been there, I hadn’t accepted any of his calls, and I knew that he was pissed. I was also supposed to visit him that day, and had been a no-show.
Me not showing up for visitation just didn’t happen, so I knew that Too Low was going crazy. The problem was that I had never told him about having that fight with Chell, nor did he know about me damaging Face’s car. It was fucked up, but his constant badgering had me hesitating to be transparent with him. However, had I known that I wasn’t going to be able to make visitation, then I would’ve at least come up with a plausible excuse.
The problem was that I had no real intention of coming to work o" my debt. I had just been agreeing to whatever to shut QT up. Then as we were out celebrating my birthday, he got on my ass, and told me how I was putting him in a fucked up position. He allowed me to see some of the text exchanges between him and Face, which indicated that there’d be an issue, if I didn’t hold up my end of the bargain.
My brother made it clear that he’d go to war ‘bout me, but we had to choose our battles wisely. My stubbornness could’ve potentially had us in some real shit, when all I had to do was show up and clean the nigga’s house. And that’s what I’d done. I’d shown up. But Too Low was none the wiser, and I wouldn’t hear the end of it, if he found out. So, I’d decided to keep him in the dark.
Knowing Too Low, he would’ve insisted that I just pay Face, and get him out of our hair. He would’ve been on whatever would
have limited my interactions with another man. Personally, I wasn’t trying to come up of that money, and didn’t need Too Low’s insecurities dictating the situation. And now, I needed to head home to answer his calls, and extinguish the flames, before he allowed his thoughts to drive him crazy.
“Where did I put my bag?” I questioned, as I glanced around the living room.
Face came sauntering into the room, yawning. “I put your bag in the guest room upstairs.”
I squinted. “Why did you put it way up there?”
“Cause. I figured that it was getting late, and you probably aint tryna drive way out to Acres Homes.”
“But it’s not even midnight.”
“Right. But it’s raining and according to the forecast, it’s not stopping til the morning. Plus, it’s gonna be flash flooding.”
“Oh, damn,” I groaned. “I really need to get home, though.”
“I hear you, but you can make yourself at home. You can have a whole room to yourself. There’s a king-sized bed. TV. And a full bathroom—”
The roar of the thunder interrupted him, and showed me why I had no business driving in that weather.
“Okay,” I sighed. “I think God is trying to tell me sit still. So, I’ma listen.”
He smirked. “Well, at least you listen to something.”
“Where you at?”
Laying across the comfortable king-sized bed, I toyed with the threads lining the comforter. “I’m in the bed,” I told a half truth.
“Okay,” he responded, before the line fell silent. I knew that he had to be in thought, as I’d just accepted the call, and didn’t immediately explain myself. “So, are you gonna tell me why these people didn’t call my name for a visit today?”
I exhaled. “Because. I had a hangover out of this world, baby.” “Damn. Y’all must’ve partied hard as fuck last night.”
“We did. And I drank way too much. Ended up throwing up and everything. I took a BC powder, but that wasn’t enough. So, I ended up taking a few sips of some lean to go to bed. I didn’t even hear my phone ringing.”
“Slept right through visitation, huh?” “Yes. I’m sorry.”
There was a brief moment of silence. Then…
“This is exactly why Ion like you going out. The first time you go to a club is the first time you miss visitation. You see the correlation?”
