"Immensely. I can't have my wife starving all day, and we both know that breakfast bar isn't going to hold you over the entire day."

I wanted to argue with him simply for argument’s sake but thought better of it. "I have snacks in my desk."

Okay, so maybe I couldn't keep my mouth shut. I never claimed to be perfect.

"I'm sure you do, but you can't survive on snacks alone. You need to put proper food in your body if you want to keep your energy up."

I looked over at my husband. I knew beneath the faded blue jeans and tight t-shirt there was a body sculpted by the gods. The man was all hard lines and sexy muscles. "You would knowa thing or two about being healthy, wouldn't you?" The snark in my tone was strong.

"I'll take that as a compliment even though I don't think that's what you meant it to be." Parker was laughing at me. I could hear it in the way he spoke, and it made me want to swipe at him.

"I didn't."

Who was I kidding? Of course it was a damn compliment. The guy was sex-on-a-stick. I wanted to lick his damn washboard abs, and I wondered if I had the night of our wedding. It was a damn shame I couldn't remember.

Parker outright laughed this time. "Someone's cranky when they wake up late."

The man was perceptive. I would give him that. "I like routine. I prefer to wake up in the morning and take my time getting ready. I like to savor my coffee not take it to go."

"Noted. From now on, we will wake up on time or earlier than needed."

I turned slightly in my seat to look at his profile. It was a smoldering picture for sure. One arm casually hanging over the steering wheel while the other rested on the door. His legs were spread wide, and his posture was relaxed. He was a woman's wet dream and fortunately all mine. "Are you always this considerate?"

The smile he quickly flashed me incinerated my panties in a flash.

Underwear? Who needed them?

"Happy wife, happy life, right?"

And he had to go and make comments like that.

"I believe the new-age version is 'happy spouses, happy houses.'"

"I prefer the old version." He looked over just long enough to throw me a wink.

Fuck, the man was going to get laid soon at this rate. Not even I would be able to push it off long due to my insecurities.

I was saved from having to say anything more as he pulled up in front of the school building. Elle waited for me as students and faculty rushed in around her.

"Did Elle know you were on the way?"

I smiled over at my best friend. "Nope, but I'm sure she planned to wait there until I arrived. Otherwise she would sound the alarm. She's my ride or die like that."

"I'm glad you have someone in your life who cares that much about you."

So was I. I didn't know what I would do without my best friend. "I better get going." I unbuckled my seat belt, but before I could get the door open, Parker grabbed my chin and directed my attention back to him. The small gasp fell from my mouth just seconds before Parker smashed his lips to mine. The shock of the moment opened me up and allowed Parker to deepen the kiss with a swipe of his tongue.

I was lost.

Lost in the moment. Lost in my husband. Lost to the entire world.

Everything melted away, and I didn't give the first fuck if I was late to work or not. All I wanted was to capture this kiss and sear it into my brain for the rest of eternity.

My husband had other plans though. He pulled away with a sigh but didn't leave me wanting. One brush of the lips across my forehead, and I knew I was screwed.

"Have a good day at work. I'll make sure you have something good to eat for lunch.”

I could only nod. I slipped out of his truck in a complete fog. I had no idea if I grabbed everything I needed. I didn't have the first clue how I made it from Parker's truck over to my best friend. I could have floated across the ground for all I know.
