“If I didn’t already know you’re in love with him, your face right now would give it all away.” I jump at Carter’s voice.

“Could you be any louder? I think Gavin didn’t hear you over there.” I look again to be sure he actually didn’t. But he is chatting with the guy he’s working on like he was a minute ago so I think it’s safe to say he missed Carter’s revelation.

“Are you saying you haven’t told him yet?” He sounds amused.

“Car-Car, have you met my boyfriend?” I roll my eyes, because he should know better. “I’m sprinkling my affection on him. If I go too big all at once he’ll bail.” I’ve thought about it a lot. I figured out I’m in love with him a long time ago. I also see how high and thick the walls Gavin built around his heart are. I can’t go in like a wrecking ball. Miley Cyrus did and look what happened there. No, I need to put up scaffolding and safety nets to dismantle that bitch brick by brick.

“I think you’re underestimating your influence on him.” He smirks and looks at me like he knows something I don’t. “Oh, Trouble,” he chuckles. “I have never seen Gav so besotted with anyone. No scratch that, I have never seen him as engaged with anyone or anything as he is with you.” Carter’s expression is full of awe. “He’s already there, trust me. Nothing will scare him away.”

“You know, I was thinking about it just now. He seems…” I can’t find the right word. I look at him and seeing his shoulders shaking with laughter at something his client said melts my heart.

“Yeah, he does. And it’s all thanks to you, Trouble. Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s nice to see him like that.” He messes with my curls and turns around at the sound of the door opening. “Well, well, well. Isn’t that the sexiest out man in Denver?” I look up and as expected, Roman walks in, his head down, balancing a tray of coffee cups in one massive hand. He notices us at the reception desk and waves at us with his free hand.

“Coffee?” He brought us coffee? It’s one way to get on our good side. I bet Drew put him up to it.

“Awww, are you already buying me treats?” Carter’s theatrics will bite him in the ass or… is Roman checking him out? “That’s one way into my heart.” I scoff a laugh because seriously Carter has zero game.

“Oh yeah? And what’s the way into your pants?” Roman asks with one eyebrow raised. The look on Carter’s face when his brain registers what Roman just said is hilarious and I burst out laughing. He tries to say something but as a result he looks like a fish out of water. Shit, maybe he has more game than I give him credit for. Clearly it’s working for He-man here. Roman is actually flirting back.

“Damn, Ro.” I can’t stop chuckling. “You made him speechless.” He hands me my drink. “How are Thor and Loki?”

“Those are cute little motherfuckers. You made their costumes?” I nod, a wide smile on my face. “Respect, man.” He turns and steps closer to Carter. Standing toe to toe he lifts one cup. “Americano, one sugar with a twist.” He winks. “You can thank me later, I’m sure you’ll… come up with something.” And then he leaves to deliver the rest of the drinks while Carter is still looking dazed. I love how much more confidence Roman has around us already. I want him to fit in with our little found family.

“What is it, Car-Car?” I mock him. “Is it possible you just met your match?” He looks at me with a mischievous smile.

“Oh, Trouble, I just met my future baby daddy and that match is gonna explode.” I didn’t mean it like that, but that visual is a little bit concerning. “Fireworks baby, the sheets are gonna burn.” He takes a sip of his coffee. I can see his eyes rolling with pleasure, I guess the little twist Roman promised was spot on. Carter turns his head toward him. “Game on, Muscles,” he says more to himself than anyone else.

This is going to be fun to watch.

“Hey, Grumpy Bear.” I walk into Gavin’s office later that day and hop straight onto his lap. He has a short break between clients so we have some time for ourselves since the waiting area is empty. “I checked your calendar and I think the last appointment might take longer than usual.”

“Yeah, we want to finish this back piece tonight so I’m almost sure it’s gonna take longer,” he says against my neck, teasing my skin with soft kisses.

“I already called Jordan, he’s going to pick me up in an hour.” He lifts his head and looks into my eyes disappointed. “Don’t pout.” He chuckles. “Finish your job and come pick me up. Maybe Jordy will cook something so we can eat dinner at our place and then go to yours?” He perks up when I mention Jordan’s cooking. He’s such a food slut, especially when it comes to my roommate’s skills. “Should I be jealous?” I joke.

“Well, Jellybean…” He connects our foreheads together and inhales. “Is there any chance that you’ll be as good in the kitchen as Jordan is?”

“Hmmm, I can be agood boyin the kitchen.” Gavin laughs out loud.

“Then I’m going to keep appreciating Jordan’s cooking skills and letting you reap the benefits from all the energy it gives me when we’re all alone.” He grabs my ass and squeezes hard.

“Deal.” I lean in for a kiss, but it’s cut short when I hear the door jingle. “I guess that’s my cue.” Just as I’m about to leave he calls my name. I turn around.

“I’ll be in the private room for my next appointment, come see me before you leave for the day, okay?”

“Duh, I wouldn’t leave without a goodbye kiss.” I wink and go back to work.

Waiting for Jordy to pick me up, I check my family chat. I’d seen some messages popping up earlier but I ignored my phone.

DREW:If you hear about someone looking to hire, let me know.

VAL:What did you do?

KIM:You bored with the Law & Order shit?

DREW:It’s not for me, and what could I have done to need a new job Val?

VAL:Uhm, maybe you went all Tom Cruise on your witness?
