She’d kept her personal life private, other than that it was known she’d dated Bradley when she was a Ranger. Mutt had known about that because he’d been good friends with Bradley and had been one of the few that had riled the fucker up about having a woman in the Rangers making him less of a man.

She’d known that Mutt and Daniels thought very little of women with the way they had talked to her and how they treatedwomen in the bar if she had gone out and they were there. She stayed away from everyone as much as possible because of the shit she’d gone through with Bradley.

She wasn’t there to bang uglies with anyone on her team, much less in the Army if she could help it. When she did have the itch, she took a rando back to his place and did the nasty and then walked away.

Hey, if men could fuck and walk, so could she. Back then, she didn’t have the time or patience for another relationship while she was in the Green Berets.

She wasn’t going to give anyone else the chance to try and talk down to her and force her to quit her dream job. Fuck them and the horse they rode in on.

“Earth to Olly. You good over there?”

Desiree shook her head when she realized she’d drifted off in thought while she was talking to Iris. Shit, she probably messaged Nightshade to hurry back to the house.

“Yeah. Sorry I drifted off in thought. I’m just so tired of all this. I want it to be over with.”

“We all do, Olly. We’ll find out who is behind this and deal with it Blue Lotus style. You fuck with one of us, you fuck with us all. We’ve got your back hot stuff.”

Desiree and Iris talked a little bit more before hanging up. As she hung up the phone, Max strode into the house looking sexy as fuck in his uniform.

Even though it was designed to hide a person’s shape, his uniform literally hugged his chest and biceps like a second skin. His pants even hugged the curve of his ass showing that he had a very spankable ass.

Hell, the man earned it with his workouts. Sometimes it was all she could do not to take a bite of his ass when he walked by in his briefs when he was getting dressed.

“Keep looking at me like that, ma’am and I’ll think you see me as a piece of meat.” Max said, pretending to be offended at her studying his body.

“Baby, you are a piece of meat. A fine grade A steak that just melts in my mouth anytime I get a chance to taste you.”

“Well, I never.” Max attempted a fake southern woman’s accent.

“You did last night, Blackwell. More than once if memory recalls.” Desiree walked up and smacked his ass nice and hard.

“Ma’am, no touching the merchandise unless you plan on buying it.”

“Tomorrow.” Desiree blurted out as she studied Max for his reaction.

“Tomorrow what?”

“Let’s get our marriage license tomorrow. Then we can elope. I don’t want to wait any longer. We can do a reception with everyone afterwards. I don’t need a fancy wedding with everyone dressing up and someone to walk me down the aisle.”

Chapter

Thirty-Three

Max couldn’t believe his ears at what he’d heard. She’d said she wanted to tie the knot this week.

She wanted to elope, no fancy wedding. Just the two of them with one person they each chose to go with them to bear witness.

“Babe, you know your brothers and your club would be hurt if we did it without them present. I say do the courthouse wedding but have them there to be a witness. Your club, who are your sisters, your brothers and mine all there to witness me making you my wife for good.” Max suggested pulling her into his arms.

“What brought this on?” Max asked a few hours later when he came up for air after Desiree had jumped him at his suggestion.

“I’m just tired of waiting. I want to start our life together. I don’t need fancy and I know you hate it just as much as I do.” Desiree admitted as she let her fingers roam his chest, drawing haphazardly.

“Then that is what we shall do. We’ll go down to the courthouse, file for our license and then get married with everyone there.” Max agreed with her.

He could tell there was something else on her mind, but she wasn’t saying anything. He could always tell when she got quiet like she did and let her fingers run all over his chest.

“What’s on your mind, hellcat?”
