For his family, he would literally cause pain and suffering. For Desiree, he would burn the fucking galaxy down and end every fucking breathing soul that caused her harm.

Fuck Prince Charming, he would happily play the villain if it meant keeping the woman who held his heart in the palm of her hand. Prince Charming was a pussy if the truth be told.

“Yo, Major, word just came through, we’re to head to the airport in Saudi. Our tickets are already waiting for us there. They are pulling us out since the three letters have someone on the inside. They don’t want us fucking with their op.” Sheridan“Flash” Foster said, bringing in the communication pack he usually carries.

“About fucking time. Load up, fuckers. Time to head home and figure this shit out another day.”

Max didn’t wait for the others to respond. He packed up his gear and set up a charge around the building that would blow after they left to destroy any traces of them being there.

By the time the charges blew, Max and his group were miles away headed toward the airport in Saudi Arabia to fly into London. From there, they would fly back home to the US on a military transport that was already waiting for them.

Twenty-four hours later, Max and his team landed back at Ft. Bragg and headed into debriefing. Several hours later, Max was driving off base and headed straight to Desiree’s.

He’d started keeping clothes at her house for days like this. He needed to see her, feel her, touch her, kiss her…every fucking thing under the sun.

Chapter

Twenty-One

Desiree jerked awake, sweat dripping down her face and chest. Her nightmares were back again.

Ever since she told her brothers about her team having been captured and tortured, she’d been having nightmares. Unbeknownst to them, she had only given the bare facts of what had happened.

Truth be told, she’d blocked out a lot of the shit that happened during that time. She knew it was her mind’s way of protecting her.

She didn’t really remember the nightmares when she woke up. Part of her hated that fact, yet a deeper part of her was grateful.

Desiree rolled over and grabbed her phone off of the nightstand. She had a text message from Max letting her know that he was at LAX and should be back at base later that afternoon.

Seeing that message, her body started to relax. Something about that man made her whole body, even her soul, feel safe.

The three times she’d had a nightmare since they had started dating, Max helped her through them. He’d talk her out of themand then held her tight in his arms when she woke up, tears streaming down her face.

He didn’t judge her, yell at her, or scoff at her. He’d literally just held her, repeatedly letting her know she was safe with him.

That meant more to her than any gift that could ever be given to her. To her, that was more intimate than sex.

“Hello.” Desiree answered her phone on the first ring.

“Awake already? You okay, hellcat?”

Desiree couldn’t help the smile that came across her lips at his voice. Damn that man had a voice that was sexy as hell.

“Yeah. Just woke up. You waiting for the rest of the team?” Desiree sunk back down on the bed and covered up.

“Yeah. Bear and Hef flew to Greece, then into London, then they head to LAX. Flash and I flew straight to London and then LAX. The rest of the team flew elsewhere, taking different routes. The last two should be here within the hour hopefully.”

“You have the key to the house and the code to the alarm in case I’m not here when you get home.”

Home. The fact she considered this Max’s home too spoke volumes. She was in love with Maxwell “Beast” Blackwell.

“Club meeting tonight?”

Max’s voice broke through her thoughts. God, she loved that man’s voice.

“Yeah. Two cases came in. We’re meeting to see which one is more urgent. Plus, Nightshade has some possible prospects for us to consider. Luckily, it’s just looking at files tonight instead of the entire process.”

“How about I call when we get done at the base and we can go from there? If you’re home, I’ll ride with you to the club and make myself useful. If you’re already at the club, then I’ll head there and ride home with you. I’ll even make dinner tonight.”
