He replied in a flash.

Kevvy: All good here

Kevvy: What about you

Why didn’t this generation use punctuation? It was so annoying to me. Like please finish the sentence with a question mark.

Kelly: I’m fine. Hoping to be home in an hour or so.

Although, I wasn’t sure Slay would let me leave before Cass woke up, which could be several more hours. Fortunately, I didn’t work tomorrow so once I got home, I could sleep as long as I wanted.

Kevvy: Stay as long as the kings need you

Of course he’d pressure me to stay. What was with his obsession with the Kings?

Kelly: I’ll keep you posted. Elevate your wrist and take ibuprofen.

Kevvy: Ok

A yawn took hold of me, and I stretched my arms above my head.

My stomach rumbled. I never finished my dinner.

I could sure use a cup of strong coffee, otherwise, I might fall asleep.

In an attempt to perk myself up, I went on social media to check out the latest hack, recipe and beauty tip that had gone viral while I worked all day. Not that I had much use for any of that, but I always told myself that someday they might come in handy.

Another fierce yawn dominated me and made my eyes water. It was approaching nine o’clock. If I sat here any longer, I would surely fall asleep.

Scrolling made my tired eyes heavy. Nothing was interesting enough for me to care. I put my phone next to me, bent my knees, put my arms on them and rested my head. I just needed a quick catnap…

The differing opinions about the nurse taking care of Cass made me laugh. The club girls called her Barney because of her purple scrubs. They said they looked like pajamas. As a man, I didn’t care about the clothes women wore because they didn’t usually stay on long.

For as much as Letty and Suzy judged the nurse, they obviously were jealous of her.

My brothers, on the other hand, were talking up the nurse. They liked her round ass and full, pouty lips. Dom and Skillz were shocked she hadn’t fallen at their feet to worship them and wondered if she was into chicks and not men.

Those idiots brightened my evening, and they didn’t even know it. It wasn’t often that I smiled or even laughed. But despite the dangers from earlier and the Russian on the loose, a little joy at the expense of my brothers had been good for me.

And the nurse? She gets mad respect from me because most chicks would have jumped at the chance to be with either of my playboy brothers. But this lady rejected them, which was fucking remarkable.

“Do you think five hundred is enough for her trouble?” Slay asked, counting the cash he’d dug out of his wallet. Five Gs sounded more than generous to me. “I don’t want to insult her.”

“Brother, I’m sure that’s plenty. She’s only been here an hour.” Jefe stared at Slay and drank his beer. The intensity rolling off Prez was more than usual. I suspected he was worried about Slay flipping the fuck out, when he was usually one of the calmer people in the club. “But I can get you more if you want.”

“I agree with Jefe,” Silvia said, placing her hand on her husband’s shoulder. They were standing behind the bar across from me and Slay. “Five hundred is a lot of money. I’m confident Kelly will be grateful. Now stop worrying about it and finish your food. It’s been a crazy day.”

Crazy? That was putting it mildly. It had been insane and I missed it all. The cleanup crew had returned half an hour ago, and Jefe had a night crew out searching for the Russian. I wouldn’t be involved in that mission either.

What was I saying? I had been involved managing the compound and watching everything unfold on the computer with our VP, Quino. But I wanted to be in the middle of the chaos.

“Listen to my woman. She knows what she’s talking about.” Jefe wrapped his arm around Silvia and planted a kiss on her lips. Prez couldn’t keep his hands off her whenever their baby boy, Chance, wasn’t in her arms. I suspected my brother was a little jealous of his son getting all of Silvia’s attention.

Ignoring the others and letting my thoughts take over, the name Kelly was stuck in my head. It was a name I hadn’t heard in a long time. In fact, there was only one person I knew named Kelly and that was way back in high school.
