“Visit who?” Rae came out dressed in jeans and a vest, her hair tied up high on her head.

“A guy we’re gonna kill,” Lucy said. “You wanna come, assassin lady? It’ll be fun.”

“The guy from the Gala?” she asked, excitement brightening her face.

“We’re not dealing with him right now,” Titus said. “Not until we sort your Guildmaster.”

“Vivian isn't going to get paid anymore, but your guy’s still out there. We can’t wait for him to strike again.”

“I'm not arguing over this Rae, you will always come first.”

Rae made a sound of frustration. “I'm not some damsel –”

Titus pulled her towards him, gripping her jaw in his hand. “I never said you were.” A flush crept along her collarbone, the way it did when she was angry. “I’m saying that you don't have to do this alone anymore.”

He watched her face twist, but she didn’t bite back. “Truce.”

Titus released her jaw. “Rae –”

“This is the weirdest relationship I’ve ever seen,” Lucy snorted. “Carry on arguing, it’s not like we haven’t got things to do, places to see.”

Rae shot him a dark look over her shoulder, which only made Lucifer laugh.

“You’re not thinking strategically,” she said. “You want to go in all guns blazing when we both know that won’t work. Vivian very rarely leaves the guild, which will be made even less likely when she doesn’t hear from Miles. She’s surrounded by a ward that prevents her from harm, not to mention she controls the entire building’s security. We need time to prepare.” Rae placed a hand against Titus’s chest, above his heart. “This is what I do, I plan and prep. You need to trust me about this.”

“Rae –”

“So what you’re going to do, is you’re going with your creepy friend here, and you’re going to take out the fucker who dared hurt what’s mine.”

“Creepy?” Lucifer muttered.

“And what are you going to do?” Titus asked her.

She bit her lip. “I’m going to do what I do best.”

Lucifer slapped a hand against Titus’s back. “So, she’s going to try and kill you again, mate.”

Titus

“You’re acting like Kace when he first mated,” Jax commented, sitting sideways.

“It’s called being pussy whipped.” Lucifer pulled the sun visor down, pouting at himself in the mirror. “They seem to only be able to think with their cocks.”

Titus crushed the steering wheel beneath his palms, praying for patience.

“No pussy can be that –”

“And what’s your excuse? Considering you only date your hand.” Titus reached over and closed the visor. “You’re beautiful princess, stop staring at yourself.”

Jax chuckled in the back. “Now you sound like Xee.”

“Damn, you’re mean now you’re mated.” Lucifer cocked his head. “She’ll be fine, she’s a big girl who literally kills people for a living. I think leaving her for a few hours will be okay.”

Titus opened his door, slamming it shut behind him. He felt normal in his fighting leathers, the weight of his guns comforting, but he still couldn’t shake the feeling that he might return home to find Rae gone. They may have been mated, but she could still walk away.

“If she was going to run, she would’ve last night,” Jax said, coming to his side.
