“Chosen, I know.” She brushed the hair from his eyes. “They’re waiting for you. I know how little you sleep, so I convinced them to wait a while longer.”

A hint of amusement touched his face. “You threatened them, didn’t you?”

“Maybe.” A grin.

A knock on the door, Lucifer opening it without waiting. “Yo, where are you?”

Titus groaned, pulling Rae back into the bedroom with him. “Couldn’t even give me five minutes, could you?”

“Ah, there he is!” Lucifer bounded over with a spring in his step, his t-shirt black with silver spikes decorating his shoulders. A bright pink headband pulled his hair from his face, complete with a little glittery heart. “If it isn’t Mr Wonky Wing. You feeling better?”

“Grand,” Titus muttered. “You able to help me get rid of this thing?” He rolled his shoulder in emphasis.

“Oh, sure.” Lucifer touched his arm, and a burst of magic tingled against his skin. Titus sucked in a breath through his teeth, the weight at his back disappearing. He expected a burst of nausea, but there was nothing, no feedback, and no throbbing like when the magic fought against him.

Rae gasped, her hand brushing against the space where his wing once was. “It just disappeared.”

Lucifer whistled. “I’ll teach you how to hide it, but if you get too angry, they just kind of explode out. Well, one will. Your other will take a while to grow back.”

“So it will grow back?” Rae asked.

Lucifer shrugged, taking a seat on the bed. “Eventually. I wonder if you’ll grow horns?” He leaned back on his hands, head cocked. “Guess we’ll find out. So, are you going to kill the Councilman?”

“No.”

“Yes.” Rae turned to face him. “If he hurt you, he’s dead,” she said, matter of factly, pulling the dressing gown tighter against her.

“The Councilman wasn’t behind the hit,” Titus reassured her.

Rae pursed her lips. “He’s an arsehole, we can kill him anyway.”

Lucifer hollered in excitement. “We’re keeping her, right?”

Rae shook her head. “I’ll get changed, one of the girls brought me some spare clothes, Eva, I think her name was.” Eyeing Lucy, she closed herself in the bathroom.

“So… you’re officially mated,” Lucy said, crossing his leg over his knee. “Soul bound and everything. Congratulations, or condolences?”

“Fuck off.”

“Congratulations it is,” he said with a smile. “You do know you owe your beast for that. I suspect he was fighting against the black magic just as much as you were.”

Mine, his beast growled right at that moment. Titus had suspected it was why his beast pushed for the mating more violently than the others, because he felt Titus needed the anchor.

“My beast has great taste.”

“That’s what you all say, but it’s going to be entertaining to see how having a beast is going to change you from the black magic.” He looked pensive. “Anyway, the reason I’m here is because I spoke to Riley, and I have the address of a certain Vector you may be interested in.”

Titus stilled, heart a rabbit against his ribs, trying to break out.

Lucifer shot to his feet. “Breathe.”

Titus swallowed, realising he’d started to panic. “Shit.”

“It’s cool, you’re fine.” Lucifer hovered his hand, but didn’t touch. “I can feel you’ve merged with the black magic, which means you’re no longer likely to just keel over and combust. It takes a while to get used to, the power overwhelming at first. It’s reacting to your emotions.”

“This address, you sure it’s the same guy?” His voice croaked when he spoke.

Lucy nodded. “Riley confirmed it. I’ve been waiting for your lazy arse all morning. Thought we could just pop over and give the guy a friendly visit.” Lucifer grinned, his teeth a little too sharp.
