Kace

The punch landed with a satisfying crunch, and Kace felt bones break beneath his fist.

The explosion had damaged the lower half of the structure, tilting it enough that he could jump from the higher tier on to a ledge, and straight to the security who were scrambling after the explosion.

The guard dropped to his knees, and with a quick twist Kace snapped his neck. He felt no guilt, only fury. He had no patience for those that worked for the Vipers, and everyone who stepped in his way would get the same treatment.

A sharp burn in his stomach, blood warm as it spread across his skin. Reaching forward he yanked a gun from another guard, only to turn it around and tip it under his chin. “Where are the fucking Units?”

“Fuck you!”

Kace pulled the trigger, and his beast roared with exhilaration as he moved quickly, leaving body after body, heading towards the stairs. He spread his mental reach, hoping the connection reached his brothers.

‘Update?’

Kace reached the top floor quickly, only encountering one more guard who he quickly disposed of with the gun. Emptying the clip into the twitching corpse, he threw the weapon to the side.

‘Ten second warning,’Riley said, his voice strained.

‘I need a fucking update!’Kace braced himself against the wall just as the second of three bombs exploded. They were small, easily disguised and planted around the arena to create maximum damage. The floor shook, dust raining down from above as concrete began to crack.

The veins of light carved into the concrete flickered in the walls, wild magic that hummed. Moving back the magic snapped out, and Kace tried to call his own arcane to help defend against the powerful whip. His tattoos glowed, the siphons that concentrated his magic straining past whatever blocked his chi.

‘Fuck sake, I’m working on it!’came Xander’s snarl.

Kace bit back his reply, concentrating on not getting shot. Bullets whizzed past, and bar the one lodged somewhere in his stomach they all missed. He moved faster than they expected, their human minds unable to track as he took them out one by one. Each death should have been calming his beast, but instead he fucking revelled in the chaos.

The last guard he grabbed by the throat, the man pissing himself as Kace squeezed. “The Units, where are they kept?” he growled.

The guard turned red, and releasing his grip slightly he began to choke. “I don’t… I don’t know,” he managed to get out. “August… Augustine.”

Kace dropped the guard to the floor as he turned down the corridor he had gestured to. The veins stirred in the concrete, pulsating the walls and beneath his feet as he stepped into a large open space.

‘Ten second warning!’Riley’s voice pierced through, but Kace ignored the warning as he met Augustine’s gaze. He stood by a door beside his huge security guard. Dust smeared across his face, and just as Kace widened his stance the third and final bomb exploded.

The ceiling collapsed, large chunks falling between them as something ignited and a fire roared to life. Kace stared at Augustine through the flames, his memories of his time on the sands rushing to the surface. Every hit, every cut and every death at his hands. All because of the man who stood only a few feet away.

Augustine’s lips curved into a slow smile, and every muscle in Kace’s body tensed.

‘I’ve got them!’Xander said, shouting inside his mind.‘Both Hunter and Eva!’

Kace cocked his head, fists clenched as he stepped closer. The fire licked at his skin, but he didn’t care, not when vengeance was only moments away.

Hunter was safe.

Eva was safe.

Which left Augustine to him.

Pressure coiled beneath tight skin, his beast ready to drown in blood.

‘Fuck K, she’s hurt bad.’

Kace’s chest tightened, and Augustine’s smile turned to a full grin at his hesitation.

‘Did you hear me? She’s hurt bad,’Xander repeated.

Riley pressed his mind.‘We have five minutes to get out, the exits are closing and some of the tunnels are flooding. Most floors have already been evacuated.’
