“We don’t care about the lessons. How are things with you and Rob?”Casey snapped.“Has he tried kissing you yet?Checked you out?”

June had taken Casey’s advice more than once to wear something more appealing to work out in.Just to try and entice Rob, but he didn’t seem to see her.At least not more than a workout partner.

“Platonic.”

“Maybe he’s gay and hasn’t come out,” Karla said, trying to sound helpful.

“No, he’s straight.I’ve asked.”

“June,” Sue scolded her.

“What?”She flipped over to her stomach and glared at the phone even though her friend couldn’t see her.“It was a fair question.”

“Did you wear that one outfit I suggested? The hot pink sports bra and a cut-off shirt.”

“Yeah, and he barely glanced at me.I’ve tried every outfit you’ve suggested.”Some had been more revealing than others.“I’ve texted him to learn his favorite dishes and cooked those.”

“Maybe you’re being too subtle,” Karla suggested.“Have you tried flirting?Batting your eyelashes.A sway in your hips.”

“Or not subtle enough.Try showing up in your birthday suit. That will get a reaction for sure.”Casey chuckled evilly.June had a feeling Casey had done that before.Maybe even more than once.

“Or you could try talking to him about your feelings for him.”

“Guys, I appreciate your suggestions, even the ones I would never do, but maybe I just need to face the fact that Rob Shaw doesn’t have any interest in me outside of friendship.”He definitely treated her more like a friend than anything.

It sucked. The first guy she’d ever really liked didn’t see her as more than a buddy or pal.The even shittier part was she had been attracted to him before, but now she really liked him.He was sweet and funny. They had so much in common. It was a cruel twist of fate.

She had seen him come into the clinic a few times, and he always made sure to say hi and talked to her for a few minutes before visiting with Dr.Shane.

“You only ever see him in a work environment.Try asking him out.Maybe he needs to see you outside of the workplace.”

She did only ever see him at his house to work or at her work.Could the atmosphere really make a difference? With her limited experience with the male sex, anything was possible.

“I’ll ask him tomorrow.”

“Will you?”Karla questioned in a disbelieving voice.

“I’ll suggest dinner at my place.”A suggestion sounded better than asking out. They always met at his house.Since they weren’t working out, there was no reason not to invite him over.

“Oh, make your lasagna,” Casey commented happily.

“You’re only suggesting it so I’ll give you the leftovers.”June didn’t believe for one second that Casey had suggested it for any other reason than herself.

“It was only a suggestion, and you do make a large platter, so there’s no reason for it to go to waste,” she added defensively.“If you make it.I’m sure whatever you make will be great.”

“I have a great recipe for tofu lettuce wraps I found on the internet you can try,” Sue remarked.“They’re delicious.”

No one said a word.Everyone respected Sue’s decision to be a vegetarian, but there was no way she was going to convert any of the rest of them.No matter how many times she tried.

“You guys don’t know what you’re missing,” Sue pouted.

“Sue, I appreciate the suggestion, but I think I’ll stick to Casey’s suggestion and make lasagna.I’m a meat girl.”She had tried tofu once—for Sue only—and she hated it and never wanted to try it again. The texture was just too weird for her.

Lasagna was easy enough to make and guaranteed delicious. It was one of Rosa’s recipes that was passed down from her family.

“How would you know; you’ve never had any.”Casey cackled, which only made June roll her eyes.

“On that note, I’m hanging up,” June stated around a yawn.It was getting late, and she had work and lessons tomorrow. She was always exhausted on Wednesday and Friday, but it was worth it.
