Eyden pulled her closer still, commanded by instinct. His breathing hitched, and he didn’t hide his reaction. Lora tightened her hands around his neck, her fingers brushing his dark hair.
“It feels like a lifetime ago and also just yesterday,” he said, his eyes drifting over her face. The mask covered much of it, but not her lips. He couldn’t help but focus on them. Eyden remembered the taste of her, all sweet and fire. It felt much too long since he’d had the privilege of kissing her.
When he looked up again, Lora wasn’t looking at him. She was staring at his mouth with such intensity it almost burned. Burned right to his heart that seemed to have a mind of its own, leading him completely astray.
“It does,” she answered, swallowing. Her gaze travelled up again, and Eyden thought he’d stop breathing altogether. There was a fiery intensity glowing between them that would put any flame to shame.
“I wanted to kiss you that night,” Eyden admitted, though he was aware she must have known. “You pulled away.”
Lora was speechless for a second. “What’s your point, Eyden?”
“We shouldn’t have held back that night.” Eyden tilted his head, leaning in closer—so close he could almost taste her. “I want to kiss you so bad right now, it’skillingme.”
Lora’s eyes searched his. He almost pulled back, scared he’d read the moment wrong, but then her gaze melted as if she was surrendering to the same desire Eyden felt etched in his heart.
“Why don’t you then?” she whispered.
Relief made his heart skip a beat. His mouth turned up as he leaned in, their lips almost touching. Her breath mingled with his, and he could feel her skin burning under the satin of her dress. It was the sweetest torture.
Leaning in closer, his lips brushed hers slightly, the tension between them unbearable in the most delicious way. If they crossed this line again, Eyden didn’t think he’d have the strength to ever go back to just business.
Then Lora licked her lips, and all sense was lost to him.
Capturing her lips, Eyden drew in the sigh she let out as if she’d been starving for this just as much as he had been. He deepened the kiss, not holding back as he put more pressure behind it. His tongue brushed against her parted mouth, tasting her finally. A wave of desire electrified his every sense.
Lora met his kiss fiercely, claiming his soul. Her hand moved to his cheek, the other clutching his shoulder. They weren’t dancing anymore. They were creating their own dance—a much more interesting one.
Eyden’s hands clasped the fabric separating them, pulling Lora closer, seeking every bit of contact. A moan escaped her, and he saved it to memory.
They were in the middle of the dance floor. Too many eyes were on them. But they were kissing as if no one was there. No one else fucking mattered.
Nothing mattered but Lora’s lips melding with his. Her hand gripping his shoulder. The soft sigh leaving her mouth as Eyden gently bit her lip—
Lora broke away, and Eyden instantly reached for her again, seeking to reclaim her lips, not wanting this moment to end. She shook her head, and for a second, he was afraid she’d changed her mind, decided to go back to all business. He’d have to accept it, but it would surely kill him this time.
But the smile Lora gave him was teasing, wicked, purefire.Taking his hand, Lora led him off the dance floor. He followed as if in a trance. He’d follow her anywhere.
Even in his hazy state, Eyden’s eyes tracked their surroundings, looking for anyone who might pay them too much attention, but it seemed they were in the clear.
Lora strode along the hallway and pulled open a random door. It looked to be a study of sorts. She closed the door behind them as Eyden briefly surveyed the room. It was empty except for the desk, some chairs, and multiple bookshelves. The curtains were drawn so no one could see them.
“Dammit, there’s no key,” Lora said, catching Eyden’s attention.
He let go of her hand and grabbed one of the chairs, using it to block the door. A missing key was not going to stop this. Whateverthiswas—he wanted it, craved it.
“Why are we here, special one?” Eyden asked, turning to lean against the sturdy wooden desk. Why had she brought them here? Please kiss me again. Put me out of my damn misery.
Lora walked towards him slowly, taking off her mask. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes burning with the same anticipation Eyden felt. His gaze travelled down her body, taking her in completely in the brighter light. Her dress had a slit on her left leg, revealing bare, tan skin Eyden was itching to touch.
“I wanted to see your face,” Lora said, her eyes sparking fire.
Eyden removed his mask and put it on the desk next to him.
“If this is insanity,” she said, stopping directly in front of him and laying her mask next to his, “I don’t want it to end yet.” Before he could even think of a response, her lips met his.
It was so unexpected that Eyden was stunned for a second before his lips moulded against hers in a sigh of utter relief. Her arms clutched his shoulders, and his hands settled back on her waist, drawing her closer again. She sighed against his lips, snapping him into action.
Swirling her around, her backside hit the table, and Eyden lifted her up onto the wooden surface. He groaned against her mouth as she hooked her legs around him, pulling him closer. Her dress rode up her thigh where the slit showed bare skin, and his hand landed there. The sharp intake of breath leaving her lips was the sweetest melody.
