“A man with a death wish?” she asked with an eyebrow raised in question.
More like a man in love.
“I hate you don’t have backup in that house if something goes sideways.” He hated feeling helpless. At least when he was driving her, he knew he could keep her safe. When he dropped her off, she was on her own.
He knew she trusted Aleksei to have her back, but the kid knew next to nothing about protecting himself or others.
“It’s sweet you’re concerned, but unnecessary. It was dinner. He wasn’t going to try anything.”
Greg knew that, but it didn’t mean he had to like it.
“You need to call your teammates.”
“Why, what’s happened?” She’d said everything had gone well.
“Maxim agreed to the meeting with Diego.”
That got his attention. “When?” he asked, a frantic tone in his voice.
“Tomorrow. Eleven p.m.”
Good. He was ready to end this. “That doesn’t give us much time.” Good thing they already had the location planned out. They didn’t need to plan out much more than placement. “I need to call my teammates so we can plan. Is it alright if they come here? If not, we can meet at our headquarters.”
“Here is fine, though there isn’t a lot of space for a whole group.”
“I’ll just have two of them come.”
“That’s fine. I need to call my boss and let him know too.”
Greg hesitated. How were the two organizations supposed to work together without meeting and making a plan together?
“I’m going to tell my boss that I found insiders on Maxim’s security team that want to help but remain anonymous.”
“Perfect. They can cover part of the outside of the building while we’ll be inside and on the opposite side of the building. We can work together without interference.”
“That should work. I’ll be back.” She headed off toward the bedroom to make her call. Zoe had told him she kept her work phone here so she could check in when not meeting at the boutique shop.
Greg dialed Luke’s number, who answered on the second ring. “What’s up?”
“Zoe got a confirmation of the meet.”
“When?”
“Tomorrow at eleven p.m.”
“We can be ready,” Luke said confidently. It wasn’t the first time they’d had to plan with such a small window. He had already picked the location, so most of the work was already done.
“Meet me at the address I’m about to text you with one other person and we’ll make a plan.”
“Done.” Luke hung up.
Greg sent a text with Zoe’s address and took a seat on the couch as he waited. He got a text back in seconds confirming they’d be there. Zoe came out a few minutes later.
“My boss wants to make a plan. I told him I can’t tonight. Tomorrow we’ll have to go to the boutique.”
“Luke and Jack should be here soon. Once we have our placement, you can give that to your boss so his team can take the other positions.”
She nodded and took a seat on the couch next to him.
