“Smart advice, from a smart woman.” He chuckled leaning forward and kissed the tip of her nose.
“Don’t you forget it.” He gave him a saucy grin.
“I won’t. Now, are you going to tell me if you’ve found anything?” Not that he didn’t love her distraction, she wouldn’t have pulled him from his thoughts for no reason.
“Not yet,” She grimaced. “I honestly needed a small break and I saw you standing here.” Drew couldn’t hide his dismay. He’d hoped she would have found something, but nothing seemed to be easy about this case.
“I’ll keep at it.” She promised.
“I know you will.”
“I narrowed down the list that Barry gave me to those that worked on the upper floor. I crossed referenced it to names listed on properties, which didn’t find anything. So I started looking at those listed on the lower floor. They didn’t even have a William listed. He’s using a different name I just can’t figure out which one yet. For all we know you’ve already looked into him and this is a waste of time.”
Now it seemed was the time to give Shay the pep talk.
“This isn’t all on you. That’s why we work as a team.”
“But you’re counting on my to find the hidden name. To find where Sykes is hiding.”
Drew unraveled his hands from her back and stroked over her shoulders in a calming gesture. “That’s not all supposed to fall on your shoulders. I’m sorry if I made you feel that way. If you can help great, otherwise between the eight of us we’ll figure out something.” He still wasn’t sold on the idea of using her as bait but if they didn’t start getting some answers soon, they might. Threatening the chief of police wasn’t going to get them more than a call from his boss and it wouldn’t end well for him and his team. “Please don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Take a step back and reassess. That’s always helped me.”
“I suppose a small break isn’t the worst idea.” Her eyes heated and her voiced turned husky. Drew felt his cock twitch to life liking where this was headed. “Whatever shall we do to pass the time?” She tilted her head back offering her lips to him.
No man could refuse such an invitation. “I can think of one or two things.” Drew lowered his head and sealed his lips over hers.
Chapter 25
Shay groaned against his mouth, her hands fusing to his back trying to draw him closer. A sense of urgency overriding her as if this could be the last time, they ever made love. It made her movements more rushed and jerkier as she tore at his clothes trying to get him bare. Her hands shook from want. It was good thing he was wearing a t-shirt and not a button-up.
“What’s the rush?” Drew asked, pulling back to give her soft, teasing kisses on her cheek to scatter across her nose to opposite cheek.
“I want you,” Was all she could say. How could she explain the urgency when she didn’t understand it herself.
Drew’s eyes sparkled like star dust then he kissed her again, his tongue pressed against the seam of her lips seeking entrance. She opened hungerly for him. Her fingers reached the base of his shirt and lifted, her knuckles scrapped his now exposed nipples that had turned to hard beads.
Drew pulled back just long enough to rip his shirt over his head and toss it on the ground. He must want her if he was making his own mess. That thought made her smile.
“What?” He asked in confusion.
“You just made a mess.” She teased, tilting her chin toward the shirt now on the ground. Drew didn’t even look. His eyes stayed locked on hers. Blazing.
“So I did.” He didn’t sound like he cared. Nor did she.
They came back together against like a hurricane. Both a tangle of limbs pulling at the other’s clothing. Shay purred in pleasure as she felt Drew’s hard-won control snap. He was just as affected as she was. The sense of urgency riding them both.
His mouth crashed against hers, drinking her in as if a starved man and she a tall glass of water. She heard a rip then his large, calloused hands stroked along her lower back. She should be upset for him ripping her clothes. She didn’t have many, but she loved every second of it. Loved feeling the contrast of his harsh hands against her smooth skin. Feeling his want for her. Knowing she drove him to this point. It was a heady feeling pushing him to a breaking point.
Her body shivered as his fingers snaked up her spine and with a deft flick of his wrist had her bra unclasped. Shay wanted to feel his hands on the rest of her body. She pulled back just enough to pull the shirt over her head and discard her bra.
Drew’s eyes blazed anew as they fixated on her bare chest. Shay kept her arms rooted at her sides, her hands in fists as she let him look his fill. The modest side of her wanted to cover her nakedness.
For agonizing seconds Drew just stared at her chest. She wanted to ask him to say something, or do something. Her nipples tightened and beaded against the cool air. The longer she stood there the more impatient she became. She knew he wanted her. The evidence strained against the front of his jeans. She didn’t know why he didn’t do anything. It was like he was frozen.
She was done waiting for him to make the first move. She was done being timid and let others lead. It was her turn to take charge.
Shay leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. She poured everything into the kiss. All her emotions. Things she was afraid to ever say out loud. Showing him with her body what she could never say to his face. Telling him with a kiss how much she loved him.
Drew dragged her closer, rubbing his erection against the juncture of her legs. Shay groaned in approval. She hiked a legup and over his hip, trying to draw him closer. Arching her lower half against him.
