I can’t help it—it just comes tumbling out of me at the sheer ridiculousness of getting fucked in yet another bathroom by this man.

“What is up with us and bathrooms?”

With his face buried in my neck, he laughs, and it vibrates against my still-buzzing skin. “Yeah, this is becoming a pattern.”

A pattern that both of us apparently can’t stop putting into motion.

After a moment, he pulls out of me. I grab napkins from beside the sink and quickly clean up and right all of my clothes with his help.

“I should probably get back out there. They’re probably beginning to wonder if I’m okay in here,” I say, taking one last glance in the mirror, smoothing my hand over my hair. Despite the fact that I tried to put myself back together, I still look thoroughly fucked, and I’m hoping that neither Saint nor Bennett notices.

And if they do… then Lennon can help cover for me.

Wilder nods. “You go first, and I’ll be out in a few.” He reaches up and swipes his thumb at the corner of my lip.

I kind of hate leaving him, but there’s no other option when everything we do is in secret. I lift on my toes and press a soft, lingering kiss to his lips and then slip out the door.

When I slide back into the booth beside Bennett, I’m feeling off-kilter.

I just had the hottest sex in the bathroom, and my mind is still with Wilder.

Not here, eating pizza and pretending that I’m not hiding this part of my life.

“Damn, girl, you ate too much?” Bennett says and then groans when Lennon kicks him beneath the table.

“Don’t be rude,” she chides, and he looks sheepish, lifting a shoulder.

“Sorry, Mais.”

Lennon’s eyes lock with mine, and they widen. We do that thing that best friends do where you talk with your eyes but never say a word, and she picks up what I’m putting down by jumping back into the conversation I walked into.

A few minutes later, I’m lost in thought when Wilder finally emerges from the bathroom, passing by the table. His eyes bounce between Bennett and me, and then he’s gone.

No one even noticed he’d passed by.

Thankfully.

Only the shift in his demeanor is so sudden that it made my chest ache. The tense set of his shoulders has returned, that space between his brow pulled tight, a charged, uneasy energy rolling off him in waves.

What’s really going on here?

“I’m going to head out. I’m not feeling very well. Bennett, you were right.” I slide out of the booth and give Lennon a quick, apologetic hug, and then I’m gone before anyone can question or pry.

Chasing after the man I can’t seem to let walk away.

CHAPTER 44

MAISIE

“Wilder,”I call after him as I rush across the parking lot of Jack’s toward where his truck is parked. He halts, his fingers wrapped around the handle of the door.

The tenseness in his shoulders is back, the muscles coiled tight with an energy radiating off him that’s tangible and not that of a man who just railed the ever-living shit out of me only minutes ago in the bathroom.

He turns, his dark, thick brows furrowed. “What are you doing out here?”

“What’s wrong?”

Wilder shakes his head, lip curling up slightly. “How could anything be wrong after that, Sunshine?”
