“You came here to kill me,” she said quietly.

He was surprised she wasn’t struggling, merely locking eyes with his.

Exhaling, he curtailed his anger as he unlocked her, immediately grabbing her robe and tossing on the bed. “I’m not going to kill you, but we do need to talk.” He retrieved the key, unlocking the handcuffs.

She rolled over, moving to a sitting position and rubbing her wrists. “What happened?”

“A change and I need to ask you some pointed questions.”

Frowning, she eased off the bed, donning the robe. “I knew you would refuse to follow through on your promise.” She walked closer, shaking her head. “There’s nowhere you can run, Wrath. I will find you.”

The way she stood up to him brought a twitch in his cock. He adored her tenacity. “Let’s go downstairs.”

She trailed behind him, remaining silent as he walked into the kitchen, but she scanned the perimeter as soon as they were in the room. “You’ve been threatened.”

“We both have.” He eased the gun onto the kitchen counter. “You have an informant in the FBI. The leak has enough knowledge that the consortium has a detailed file.”

“You were tipped about Stephen.”

“And about various other cases. I knew when to hit Mr. Marguiles. I am aware of the strengths and weaknesses within the organization.”

“Why are you telling me this?” Sophia asked, inching closer.

“Because I don’t want you to lose your life.”

She looked away briefly. “You were told to kill me.”

Wrath nodded.

“I asked too many questions,” she continued.

“Yes. Your persistence is one of your finer attributes but could be the reason for your elimination.”

“Who is the leak?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know. That is the truth. But I will find out.”

She studied him for some time before moving against the counter. “Then what are you going to do?”

“It’s safer here. If an assassin is sent, it will happen sometime tomorrow. I will be prepared. I will do everything I can to protect you.”

“Then what?”

Chuckling, he rubbed his eyes. “Then complete the terms of the deal.”

“You’re willing to be arrested?”

“Right now, I see no other choice. I have enough information that should be very helpful in capturing members of the consortium.”

She huffed and closed the distance. “You honestly want me to believe that you’d turn in members of your own family in order to go into the witness protection program?”

“You said so yourself, I have no real life. Ricardo Constantino needs to die.”

“That’s risky at best and I can’t authorize anything of that nature. You do understand that?”

“Yes. I’ll take my chances because I trust you implicitly.” He noticed a quiver in her lower lip, heard her ragged breathing. His heart ached thinking about what could happen. “But you will also need to be protected. You’ll have to disappear.”

“You said there’s no place to run.”
