She resisted cursing, mumbling or otherwise telling him the fuck off. She only wanted the damn ginger removed from her asshole. The second he tugged on the naked root, giving her relief, she let out a distinct sobbing sound. Submitting to the assassin was… She almost laughed at the thought. There were no words that came to mind.
“Now, I think it’s time to introduce you to an ass plug, which you will wear at all times.”
His voice seemed to echo, creating vibrations jetting through every muscle and cell. An ass plug? Was he kidding?
“We’ll increase the size as I see fit,” he muttered, allowing her to see the gleaming silver implement he held in his hand.
The jeweled end seemed luminescent in the moonlight, drawing her eyes toward the ruby red surface. She bit her inner cheek, holding back yet another moan.
He tapped her bottom before wiggling the tapered end of the piece between her ass cheeks.
Sophia clenched her fists as he slipped the plug inside, her ass muscles immediately clenching around the foreign invasion. The metal was cool, yet intrusive and the lingering effects of the ginger prominent enough she whimpered.
“I’ll return soon, my sweet Sophia.”
Whether or not his voice was meant to be soothing she wasn’t certain. What she did hear was a tone full of tension. When he left the room, her instinct told her that the deal he’d made was about to be forfeited.
Another slice of fear trickled into her system and this time, it had everything to do with the man she was falling in love with.
What in God’s name was she supposed to do?
Wrath knew better than attempt to make a phone call with Sophia in the house, other than if she was locked in or shackled. Their frank conversation had placed a nagging in the back of his mind, one that needed affirmation. After sliding into his pants, he moved to the study, dialing his father. At this point, he didn’t give a shit what time it was. Her knowledge base was far too significant regarding the Dark Haven.
This particular phone was a burner, one that was untraceable. His father’s loyalty was placed with the consortium first, his family a distant second. When the man answered, he clenched his fist. “Benedetto.”
“To break protocol must mean this is important, Ricardo. I do not take kindly to being awakened.”
His father’s voice was gruff as usual, but this wasn’t a social call. “Call off the dogs.” The hesitation in Benedetto’s voice meant his instincts were correct.
“She is a detriment to you, son. Unfortunately, you’re too blinded to see that. The process has already begun.”
“I don’t give a shit what you believe, Father, you are not going to have her killed.”
“Then you’ll need to promise me that after you enjoy the whore, you’ll take care of the situation. There is no room for choice. You brought her into this, your desire blinding you. I suggest you take care of this by tomorrow.”
Wrath wanted nothing more than to reach through the phone, his rage snaking a way through every blood cell. Now his own father was threatening him. “There is no reason to end her life. She knows nothing.”
“Nothing? Her questions have unsettled the balance to the point the others are being called back. The clock is ticking. You need to prove your loyalty to your family.”
Everything had been tipped out of control. He glared out the window, studying the shimmer of water in the pool. His father was right. There was no other choice. “Fine, but I’ll handle this.”
“Your services will be met with gratitude.”
The moment his father ended the call, Wrath pitched the phone against the wall, hissing as the pieces fell to the floor. His father had made a detrimental mistake, a weakness that was unexpected.
Much like Sophia had indicated.
Likely the location had been compromised, but that would have come from someone stateside. He stood in the same location for a few minutes before pulling a second gun from the desk drawer, checking the clip, snapping it in place, and sliding it into his waistband. Yes, he continued to lie to her, necessary as usual. He checked the security system, including the various cameras positioned on the exterior premises. He’d rented this house in particular for the secure location, as well as the various attributes it offered.
Detecting nothing, he headed up the stairs, waiting just outside the room before entering. When he walked in, she opened her eyes. There was a knowing expression on her face, not quite fear but a hint of resignation. She’d gone to bed with the enemy, onlyonce not of her free will. They were much the same, mirrored in their worlds but still fighting for the same kind of cause. The irony left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Sophia shifted, craning her neck in order to see him. “What’s wrong?”
“Who said anything is wrong?”
“I can tell by your breathing and by the gun you brought with you. I should have known.”
There was no way for her to see the Glock, only her instincts certain that he couldn’t be trusted.
