Then I realize I still don't know Jamie's favorite color.

"Ugh," I grumble and flop back onto the little nest of blankets I made. "No. But I bet it's black or something equally as broody."

Cassidy chortles and falls off the couch onto her belly. "I bet it's gray."

"You could ask him," Mom interrupts sipping her tea.

I narrow my eyes at her cup for half a second, trying to figure out why the hell my party girl mom is drinking fucking tea during a girls' night. Then her words finally register. Snapping, I point at her and say, "Good idea!"

My phone is in my hand without a moment's thought. My fingers fly over the cracked screen, and I hit send.

"Who wants a brownie?" Cass perks up, eyes wild and a little glossy.

"NO! No brownies with alcohol," Felix declares from the kitchen.

Cassidy pouts. "Party pooper," she huffs and reaches for her phone to turn the volume up on her music.

Humming along to the tune, I close my eyes and squeak when three vibrations go off on my tummy. Immediately, my hand goes down to slap the feeling away, but I connect with my phone and sit up to gape at the screen.Wait, when did I lie down?

"Oh no," I say quietly, not wanting to alert my friend to my mistake. "Shoot shoot shoot shoot!"

Mom pokes me and teases, "Next time you want to get hammered, let’s put your phone up high so you don't dothatagain."

Bythat, she means unblocking Nate and Ellisandmessaging the group chat a very embarrassing message. My eyesight wobbles with the effects of the alcohol, so I onlythinkit's as bad as I'm seeing.

"Take it!" I scramble to give Mama my phone, but she effortlessly shoves it back into my hand.

"Nope." She shakes her head. "You opened that can of worms. You figure it out."

"Moooom," I whine, pleading with her to fix my whoospie.

She rolls her eyes and tucks her blanket around her more tightly. "You could just not say anything else."

I'm no longer listening because I know just the thing to fix this situation. "Cass, make me another drink, please?"

"ON IT!"

Mom huffs a laugh and closes her eyes as she leans her head back against the wall.

"Ma, are you okay?"

"Hmm?" She blinks at me, looking sleepy. "Oh yes. You just do your thing. I might take a snooze before we watch the movie."

Her messy blue bun flops to the side, and a snore slips from her lips. Worry blasts through me, but my darn phone lights up with another message. Oh my god, when did I text themthat?!

"Voilà!" Cass giggles as she stumbles a bit in my blankets. "A drink, m'lady."

Thank fuck. This will help numb the embarrassment.

NATE

“Holy shit," Ellis breathes and lunges for me. I flinch when his bright ass phone burns my eyes. "LOOK!"

Grunting, I shove the device away from me and glare at him. "The fuck are you doing?" The fucker doesn't take the obvious hint and pushes it back at me.

I snatch his phone and take a deep breath. I've been struggling since our fucked up morning at the gym. What Levi said about Violet has made me murderous. She was hurt, and I didn't know. I can't believe I didn't fucking know...
