“How you using my shit against me?”

“I’m not. I’m just requesting clarity on a previous discussion.”

Trooper laughed and moved toward me. “Clarity?”

“Yes, clarity,” I repeated.

“Look, I know who I was and I know who I am. That’s still in me, so I’m not going to lie and say it’s not. The difference is I did what I had to do to survive. I didn’t have what you had coming up, but I live differently now.”

“Trooper, I don’t care. How many times do I have to say that? You don’t want me judging you? Don’t judge me.”

He chuckled and slid his arms around my waist. “Aight, I’ll let it go and I’ll let you yelling at me like you lost your damn mind go too.”

“So you can yell at me but I can’t yell at you?” I asked with raised brows.

“We’ll discuss that later. Get dressed and pack. Our plane leaves at eight. I have to take care of a few things before we go, so I’ll be back to get you later.”

As much as I wanted to spend the morning with him, I also had things to do. I had no idea how I was about to explain just leaving for a few days. I never did that. Either way, I didn’t care. I was going and they would just have to figure it out. It was what I paid them for.

After a kiss on the neck, I headed to the bathroom and Trooper finished dressing so he could head home to shower and change. When he was ready, he joined me in the bathroom.

“Ay, what’s his name?”

“Who?” I looked at him through the mirror in confusion as he stood behind me while I washed my face.

“Your ex.”

I thought it was strange that he asked and I couldn’t read his expression. “Why?”

“I just need to know who he is. He knows me, but I don’t know him. That’s a problem.”

I turned to face him and just stared. “He’s not a problem.”

“What’s his name, Sophie?”

I didn’t know why, but felt like telling him would be even more of a problem. However, I didn’t really have a choice. If I didn’t, it would be an issue for us.

“Lincoln Olsen.”

Trooper kissed me on the lips and walked away. “Have a good day, Sophie, I’ll see you tonight,” he said just as he left the bathroom.

Chapter 15

Trooper

After I made a few calls to find out more about Lincoln Olsen, I keyed in his address and made my way to his house in Scarsdale. I owned a house out there, so I knew the area very well. One thing I hated was a muthafucker too pussy to deal with a problem like a man. I was already protective of Sophie and didn’t want anyone causing her stress. I was even more pissed that he’d come to her instead of me.

I needed him to be clear that would be his first and last time addressing Sophie about anything concerning me. After our conversation, if he refused to stay away, then we would have a different type of meeting, which wouldn’t require any conversation at all.

I had perfect timing, because when I pulled up in his driveway, Lincoln was walking to his car, dressed in a suit and carrying a briefcase. I laughed because I was about to fuck up his entire day. The smile he wore let me know he’d assumed I was Sophie, likely because we had identical vehicles. But the closer I got, that expression changed.

After I parked, I reached into my glove compartment and grabbed my nine. I placed it on my hip after I got out and he watched me the entire time, nervously clutching the briefcase.

“Ay, let me holla at you real quick,” I said coolly as I approached him.

“Hollaat me?” he stated in a smug ass tone.

“Yeah, holla at you. I can just shoot your pussy ass instead, that’s up to you, but I figured I at least owed you one fair warning.” A grin spread across my face as I walked up on him.
