Story

“Ineed you to keep it...” The receptionist policing William’s affairs stopped mid-sentence when Trooper and I bypassed her, heading toward his door as she tried to stop us.

“Excuse me, sir, can I help you with something?” I looked over at the woman approaching me as I passed her on the way to William’s office. She had been sitting behind her desk. When Trooper and I didn’t stop, she jumped up like a guard dog and headed our way.

“No, you can’t help me, but you can help yourself. Go back to your desk, sweetheart.” I winked at her and she looked at me in confusion.

“If you’d like to see Mr. Prescott, you’ll have to wait. He’s busy right now and I’m sure you don’t have an appointment because I didn’t log any for today.”

I narrowed my eyes at her and spoke calmly. “Let me be extremely clear since you seem to be confused about what to do next. This is somthing you don’t want to get caught up in, so take your ass back to that expensive ass desk over there and continue pretending you have a purpose. I can assure you I’m about towalk through that door and there ain't shit you can do about it besides get your feelings hurt.”

Her mouth hung open and I kept going. As soon as I reached William’s office door, I opened it and stepped inside, taking a seat in front of his desk. My eyes were on him the entire time. Trooper was behind me and he closed the door.

“You look confused, William,” I said calmly as his eyes moved from me to Trooper and back to me.

He hadn’t said a word yet, which I was sure had to do with the shock of seeing me as a free man. He damn sure hadn’t expected that.

“I should have known that bitch would betray me at some point. I’d be willing to bet she’s the reason you’re here,” he stated calmly, leaning back in his chair and locking his hands in front of him with his fingers intertwined.

I kept cool, even though his reference to Alana made me want to body his ass right where he sat. I couldn’t do that in his building filled with people who would be more than willing to say anything for him. Besides, his time was coming. This was just a warning for him to get ready.

“She was never loyal to you in the first place, so let’s just say she did what she had to do.”

“And she did it well.” William smirked like that meant something to me. Him being with Alana had no relevance to me because she never really belonged to him. He knew it just as well as I did.

“We’re grown ass men, so I’ll keep it simple so we are very clear on how I feel. There are a lot of reasons I’m going to kill you, but the main one is that you hurt my daughter. I made a huge mistake years ago, but I’m about to make up for that.”

“Hurt her? I would never personally hurt my daughter. Now that bitch you’re?—”

Before he could finish his sentence, I was on my feet, yanking him from his chair with my hand firmly gripping his neck as I dragged his body across his desk. I squeezed as tightly as I could while he gasped for air, gripping at my hands, trying to free himself.

“Call her a bitch one more time and I’ll do another ten years just for the satisfaction of ending this shit right now. As for Sophie, playing house with Alana don’t make her your daughter.”

Trooper moved quickly and was right next to me with his gun aimed at William’s head, but I shut him down. This wasn’t the time or the place.

“Put that away. We don’t need that right now,” I said calmly, keeping my eyes on William.

Trooper hesitated, but did as asked.

“Let me say this nice and slow so you make no mistakes about what’s next. It might be today, tomorrow, or even a year from now, but your life is mine. For every second you breathe after I leave this office today, I want you to know I’m going to be the one who ends your life. I’m back and I’m claiming what’s mine.”

I let him go and he collapsed on his desk briefly before he regained control and was able to stand.

“Do you really think you can hurt me? I’m untouchable, you can’t do shit to me. I can make one call and have you arrested before you even make it out of this building.”

William glared at me while he rubbed his neck, causing a smile to spread across my face.

“Call your security. They can’t do shit to me because they can’t prove a gotdamn thing. It’s your word against mine. I was just dropping by to pay an old friend a visit. Keep your eyes open, William, or you’ll never see me coming.”

Trooper chuckled, then out of nowhere, hauled off and rocked the shit out of William. He hit him so hard William fell into the bookshelf behind his desk.

“And for the record, your ass ain't untouchable. I think I just proved my point.” Trooper grinned and headed toward the door.

I laughed at his crazy ass as we left William’s office.

This was only the beginning. William wasn’t going to call security because he knew that wouldn’t help him. An assault charge wouldn’t do shit to save his life and he knew it. At this point, the only thing he could do was try to kill me before I killed him. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t work either. When I said his life was mine, I meant that. William Prescott had a price on his head.

“You’re giving him time to come for you,” Trooper said as soon as we were back in the car.
