“Don’t worry about it,” Dad snaps. “I may ask them about backing us if things go south with Red Storm.” He stops and runs his gaze around the packed room. “Let’s take a vote. What’s our answer to giving Red Storm MC cash for the crank they claim our girl stole?”

“Fuck no!” everyone shouts so loud the walls shake.

“Well, all right then.” My dad smirks at me before asking the next question. “How do we feel about asking the Iron Bulls MC for support on this matter?”

The answers on this one are split, so my father goes around the room taking individual votes. In the end, the vote is in favor of bringing the Iron Bulls in on this.

Even though I voted yes, I’m not sure how I feel about it. My club comes first. All other clubs are secondary. Asking another club for help feels weak, even though, rationally, I know it’s the smarter move.

CHAPTER FOUR

I’m exhausted by the time I finally pull in the driveway. After church, my father put me to work for a few long hours.

My house is dark. Kadence better fucking be here. The more I thought about Red Storm’s claim that she stole from them—stoledrugsfrom them—the more pissed I got. Then my anger turned to fear, and I needed to come home and make sure she was okay. Trying to take her from my house would be as good as declaring war on our MC. Snatching her off the street isn’t any less of an open challenge to my club, but you never know what irrational assholes will do.

“She inside, Vinny?” I ask one of the prospects stationed outside my house.

Just because I don’t think Red Storm would come near my house doesn’t mean I was leaving Kadence unprotected all day long.

“Yes, sir,” he answers with a quick nod. “She never even opened the door. Turned the lights off a few minutes ago.”

“Okay. Good.” I nod at Wilson, the other prospect, and he ambles over. “You can head out. Stick together, though.”

“No problem.”

The shower’s running when I step inside. Fuck if that sound doesn’t rile me up. Hell, I’m already riled up. Knowing some asshole wants to hurt my girl has me wanting to wrap her up tight and not let go.

Kadence can go through a tank full of hot water. Even so, I shed my clothes quickly, hoping to catch her in the shower.

She turns and jumps at the sound of the door opening. “What are you doing? You scared the shit out of me.”

One arm reaches up, covering her breasts while the other shields her pussy. “Why the hell are you trying to hide yourself from me?”

“I…I…” Her voice falters as she her gaze drops to my side. To the spot where she plunged a knife in me a couple months ago. I let out a hiss of air as her fingertips trace over the wound. It doesn’t hurt. Feels weird, but not painful. No, the only thing I’m aware of is how much I like having her hands on me again.

“I’m fine, babe.”

“I could’ve killed you.” Her voice is full of misery I want to take away.

“Kady,” I say, brushing my thumb over her cheek. “Accidents happen.”

“Stabbing the man you love isn’t a normal accident.”

I can’t help it, a broad grin stretches across my face. “You love me, Kady?”

She sighs as if the question annoys her. “I didn’t say that. Get out of my shower.” Her voice is full of the sass I love from her, but her eyes still hold a world of sadness.

“No.”

She huffs and turns, sticking her face in the spray of the water. Not even that muffles the sounds of her crying.

Placing one hand on her shoulder, I gently turn her to face me. “I’m fine. See?” I grab her hand and hold it against my chest. “Gonna take a lot more than your little pocket knife to take me out.”

That’s when she really loses it. Harsh sobs leave her shaking as she flings herself against me, holding on tight. Shit, I know she’s having a breakdown here, but she’s also pressing all her wet, nakedskin against my wet, naked skin. I run my hand over her back and shush her. “Baby, I’m fine.”

“Why aren’t you mad at me? Why’d you come save me last night?”

“I ain’t mad that you stabbed me, sweetheart. I’m mad youliedto me.”
