"Yeah, but you're not—"
"Not what?"
"Never mind."
"Not going to a good college? Is that what you were going to say?"
"Just forget it."
"You think my chance of going to a good school is over now? Because I don't have money anymore?"
"Brook, I'm not wasting time fighting with you. What do you want? Why did you call?"
He always talks to me like this and I never thought anything of it until I started hanging out with Dean. I used to think Dean was an ass, but that was all an act. Beneath his tough exterior, Dean's kind and sweet and considerate. Chad's the asshole, and it's not an act. It's who he is. He only cares about himself.
"I called to say it's over." I state it like a fact, with no emotion.
"What's over?"
"Us. This relationship. I'm breaking up with you."
"Yeah, right. I'm going to bed. I'm tired."
"Chad, I'm serious. I'm ending this. I don't want to do this anymore. We're over."
"You're just being dramatic because I didn't come see you last weekend."
"That's not what I'm doing. And you not coming to see me should prove to you this is over. I haven't seen you in two weeks and you don't even miss me."
"Of course I miss you."
"If you did, you would've found a way to see me."
"This is what I'm talking about. You don't support me, Brook. You expect me to spend all my time with you instead of focusing on my future."
"Your future used to includeme. Even with all your activities, you still found time to be with me. Now I can't even get you on the phone."
"You're on the phone with me right now."
"I meant the past couple weeks. It doesn't matter. The point is, we're not good together anymore. We need to just end this and move on."
He huffs. "And your dad's okay with this?"
"My dad? What's my dad have to do with this?"
"He wouldn't let you do this. Your mom wouldn't either. Have you told them?"
"I told my mom."
"And?"
"She said to give it more time, but I don't need more time. I know what I want and it's not this."
"Who is he?"
"What?"
"Who's the guy?"
