“I’ll do that,” Alex said with a faint smile. “Starting over, what I got from your conversation is the following: Sawyer’s cousin, Jackson believes I will be safe if we stay with the Blackwood Pack. Right?”
“Right,” Sawyer said.
“But Glenn thinks I’ll be safer if we go with him to his friend’s house because no one…and I think you mean The Collector…would suspect I’m there, right?”
“Yes,” Glenn replied. “But...”
Holding up a finger, Alex said, “I’m not finished. Sawyer’s counter-argument to your claim is Dylon, Cody and Zane have abilities that are more powerful than anything you have available at your friend’s house. Do I have that right?”
“Yes, but…” Sawyer answered.
Interrupting his mate, Alex said, “I understand you planned on telling me about their abilities in the morning, but…”
“There’s one other thing you should know…both of you,” Glenn said.
“What?” asked Alex and Sawyer together.
“I picked up a faint scent of another shifter near this motorhome. It was at least eight hours old.”
“What was it?” asked Sawyer.
“It was too faint to tell, but my concern is...”
“He will be back,” mused Alex.
“Yeah, I’d say that’s a fair assessment,” Glenn said.
“Sweetheart, what do you want to do?” asked Sawyer.
Pausing for a moment, Alex weighed the information he had so far, realizing there were too many variables for him to decide. But he did think he and Sawyer should leave…at least temporarily. “For the time being, let’s go with Glenn. It’s the closest and it’ll give us time to talk and plan what our next step will be…like maybe claiming each other.” Giving his mates a suggestive smile as he stood up, Alex then headed down the hallway to the bedroom, adding a little wiggle to his walk.
Astonished, Sawyer’s eyes followed his mate until he was out of sight. Turning to Glenn, he smirked. “Sounds good to me.”
“Amen, sister.”
Chapter 28
Driving pass Ghost’s house the second time, Glenn finally was satisfied no one was tailing them. Flicking his eyes over to the rear-view mirror, he smiled at his two sleeping mates, leaning against each other. Two mates! Wait until my mother finds out. That thought led to what he would tell Dylon about not bringing Sawyer and Alex to the Blackwood Pack as he’d promised. “Damn!” he muttered. He was about to be caught by Dylon in a lie by omission, but a lie just the same.Considering Glenn’s shitty attitude toward Dylon when they’d met in New York, he knew the incredible hulk would be pissed off.
Sighing silently, Glenn pushed that problem aside for now, turning his attention back to keeping Alex safe. And that led him right back to finding and killing The Collector. But knowing what needed to be done was one thing, the doing of it was another.
Rounding the corner on the street leading to Ghost’s house, Glenn pushed the automatic garage door opener button, driving slowly towards the driveway. After making one more check behind him, he turned into the driveway and pulled in an empty space in the garage. Pressing the button, he kept his eyes on the lowering door until it stopped. A movement near the door leading into the house caught his eye; his hackles raised and his claws extended in preparation for meeting the threat.
Stepping out of the shadows, Riley raised his hand. “Yo, what the fuck? I thought someone was breaking in.” Then peering over Glenn’s shoulder, he spied the two sleeping men. “Why didja bring them here?”
Removing his keys from the ignition, Glenn, quietly opened the door before climbing out of the vehicle.Walking over to Riley, he murmured, “Because there was someone snooping around Sawyer’s campsite earlier…and they are both my mates.”
Riley’s eyes bugged out. “No fucking way!”
“Keep your voice down. Have you heard from Ghost?” asked Glenn.
“Yeah, they landed in Mexico and are on their way to Panther’s location.”
“Good. Stay here with my mates while I get a room ready.”
“Uhm, sure. What should I do if they wake up?” Riley shifted from foot to foot. “You know, one of them’s a dragon.”
Rolling his eyes, Glenn shook his head as he brushed passed Riley. “Trust me, you aren’t in any danger.” Entering the house, he hurried to the bedroom he was using, quickly stripping the sheets off the bed before remaking it with clean ones. Grabbing some towels from the linen closet in the bathroom, he set them on the counter along with a bottle of body wash. Then checking to make sure everything was squared away, he headed back to the garage, ready to retrieve his mates—but stopped when his phone vibrated in his pocket.
