Nodding, Willow stood and said good-bye to Mac.

After her friend left, Hope turned back to Mac. “My hands still shake if I try to hold anything. Sofia helped me this morning, but I really don’t like relying on her all the time.”

“Let’s take a look…hold out your hands like this,” Mac said, demonstrating. After his aunt did as instructed, he studied them before grasping them with his hands. “Squeeze my hands as tight as you can.” After a minute, he said, “Okay, let go.”

“What’s the matter with them?” asked Hope.

“I’m pretty sure the shaking is caused by weak muscles. Just as in your legs, the rest of your muscles have lost strength. There are some exercises that can help but I also think it’s time for you to shift and run. The shifting will help heal your hands and any residual weakness in the rest of your muscles…and I’m betting your wolf will love it.”

Listening to her wolf howl in joy, Hope grinned at Mac. “She certainly agrees with your prescription.”

“Good. Let me tell Jackson first, then I’ll come to get you,” Mac said, getting up and moving his chair away from her.

“Thank you, Mac.”

“My pleasure.” Bending down, he gave his aunt a kiss before leaving. Walking down the hallway, a big smile lit up his face.

Chapter 18

“Fuck!” Sitting on the bed of their cottage after returning from his flight lesson with Fionn, Hunter became uneasy after reading Sawyer’s message.

“Is Henri up to something else?” Fionn asked, straddling Hunter’s lap and lacing his hands behind his mate’s neck.

Setting his phone down, Hunter leaned in, giving Fionn a kiss. Then grabbing his mate’s ass, he squeezed the globes filling his hands, smirking when a soft moan erupted from his mate. “No, pet, it’s about Sawyer and his mate.”

“What about them? I thought Sawyer was going to take him back to the Blackwood Pack.”

“Thatwasthe plan.”

“Oh…so what’s the new plan?”

“I don’t know…my brother sent me a message saying his mate wasn’t in danger so I shouldn’t worry. Then he thank me and told me he would contact me in a few days. I have to call Jackson and let him know. We were supposed to have a conference call with Sawyer.”

“So why are you frowning? It sounds like your brother has everything under control.”

“Yeah, maybe…”

“You don’t really believe that, do you?”

Shaking his head, Hunter said, “My wolf is of a different opinion…he’s telling me Sawyer’s in danger, but he doesn’t know who or what’s responsible for it. As far as I can figure, it’s either his mate, Alex, who’s a threat to mybrother or it’s because Alex has enemies who might endanger Sawyer.”

“What do you know about Alex?”

“Only that he’s a dual shifter…which is kinda unbelievable.”

“Not that much…I mean, after all, look at me. Did you know anything about my white dragon before you met me?”

“You have a point…but my gift from the Fates lets me protect you. I don’t know if that’ll happen to my brother…and that’s what worries me. A dual shifter like Alex must be as rare as you, so how can Sawyer even hope to protect him? After all, he’s only a wolf shifter.”

“That’s why you wanted him and Alex to go to the Blackwood Pack…so Jackson and the others would be able to protect him?”

“Exactly.”

“Do you think Sawyer will like that? Having his cousins protect his mate? He’s a wolf and I just can’t see him accepting it. From what I have seen with wolf shifters, they are very territorial about mates.”

“You think that’s how I am?” Giving a low growl, Hunter licked Fionn’s mating scar before nipping at it again.

Giggling, Fionn squirmed on his mate’s groin in response to flashes of fire coursing through his body, ignited by Hunter’s licks and nips. “Yes…but I love it mate, I really do.”
