“Look, I get it. You’re worried about him and so am I. But you know Smokey…if he feels pushed…”

“Yeah, I know,” Ghost said, before holding out his palm. “Give me the keys. Nate will hide our car so Luka won’t know we’re here.”

Handing them over, Glenn growled, “C’mon, let’s see what we can learn from this fucker.” Taking another look around, Glenn was impressed with how good Ghost’s men were. While he couldn’t see or hear them, his tiger did, adding to Glenn’s curiosity about Ghost’s activities since he left the agency. Putting his thoughts aside, he and Ghost headed into the house, finding their prisoner bound to a chair in the middle of the room.

Ghost smirked at the venomous glare coming from Loki. Before glancing at Smokey. “Finally awake, eh?”

Shrugging his shoulders, Smokey grinned. “He just woke up about a minute ago.”

“Not a happy camper,” Ghost said, chuckling.

“Remove the gag,” Glenn ordered.

As soon as it was off, Loki screamed, “You’re dead meat! Every last one! You have no idea who you’re fucking with!” Pulling on his arms, he tried to free them from the ropes binding him to the chair while cursing at the three of them, but failed to loosen his wrists, even slightly.

Watching the frantic attempts by his prisoner to free himself, Glenn stood there, waiting until Loki realized the futility of his struggles. Smokey was a master with knots and, as far as Glenn knew, no one he tied up ever escaped. When Loki finally quieted down, Glenn spoke. “Your brother shot at us last night…tell me who he was trying to get?”

“Fuck you!”

Smokey stepped in front of Loki, facing him. “The man asked you a question.”

“Fuck you, too!”

Smokey’s fist sunk into Loki’s stomach, eliciting a loud grunt from him. “Now, again, the man asked you a question.”

Struggling to catch his breath, Loki glared at Smokey but didn’t say a word.

Looking over his shoulder at Glenn, Smokey said, “He’s not getting my message.”

“Make him…but don’t kill him…yet.”

Circling Loki’s chair, Smokey contemplated where to begin before seizing one of Loki’s fingers and breaking it. Ignoring the screams of pain, Smokey calmly continued to break all of Loki’s fingers before giving him a chance to answer Glenn’s question. “What about now? Change your mind?”

“I don’t know who his target was…is…I swear to you.”

“Not good enough.” Walking slowly around Loki again, Smokey paused near his left leg. Remaining still, he listened to his captive’s whimpers for a moment before his boot connected with Loki’s shin. The sound of breaking bones echoed through the room and before Loki could even finish his scream of pain, Smokey shattered his other shin bone.

“Fuck you, asshole! I’m tellin’ the truth!”

Snorting, Glenn put his hand out to stop Smokey before walking over to Loki. “See, somehow I don’t believe you ‘cause that would mean you’re dumb…but you and I both know that’s not true.”

“Look, I’m telling the truth. I haven’t seen my brother for a while. I’m an enforcer for the Silver Point Pack.”

Glenn nodded to Smokey who walked behind Loki and grasping one if his hands, twisted it, causing another howl. Narrowing his gaze, Glenn growled, “I think you meant youwerean enforcer, don’t you, asshole? You left a month ago, teamed up with your brother because being an assassin paid more than being a two-bit enforcer.” Seeing Loki’s fleeting look of surprise, Glenn continued. “According to the ad you placed online, you and your brother have perfect records in getting rid of problems. The time both of you spent in Diego’s Army was time well-spent, eh? Came out with skills not many shifters have. What did you tell me back at the bar? Oh yes, you can take out a target a mile away.”

Cuffing Loki on the side of his head, Smokey growled, “Your fucking brother almost wrecked my jeans with his half-ass shooting. Maybe you’re better.”

“I wouldn’t have missed.”

“Well, we’ll just have to see…now if you want to have any hope of fixing those fingers before the bones start to set wrong, answer my question. Who hired your brother?”

Ignoring the pain in his fingers and legs, Loki glared at Glenn as he considered his options. Protecting his brother was his priority which gave him only one choice: give them what they want to gain his freedom. Once that happened and he was sure his brother was safe, both of them would go after every last motherfucker involved in his kidnapping. “Xavier Lee.”

Glancing at Smokey, Glenn saw him shake his head slightly; his friend didn’t recognize the name. And since it wasn’t familiar to him, that left Ghost. Turning on his heels, he headed outside, knowing his friend wouldfollow. Once they were far enough away, Glenn stopped and looked at Ghost. “Who is he?”

“No fuckin’ idea. Not someone I ever had dealings with.”

“Me neither. So why would he hire someone to off one of us? It doesn’t make sense.”
