Putting the pieces together, Sawyer grinned. My mate was dreaming of me!“Oh sweetheart, you have nothing to be sorry for…really…you should have those dreams more often!”

Snorting at his mate’s response, Alex glanced over and saw the same happiness on Sawyer’s face that he’d seen on the face of the wolf in his dream. The sheer beauty of his mate took his breath away. Reaching out, he cupped Sawyer’s cheek, loving the feeling of his mate’s whiskers against it. Staring at the wolf in Sawyer’s eyes, Alex realized his dream had finally come true. His years of loneliness disappeared as Sawyer’s scents of lavender, wild thyme and wolf enveloped him…caressing him with love, warming his soul, surrounding him. His fears had finally been driven from his body.

His animals were dancing with joy, realizing Alex finally understood their need for their mate. Alex would not fight them any longer, he couldn’t; his need was as great as theirs, so the only thing left, according to his animals, was the claiming of Sawyer’s wolf. Leaning forward,Alex softly brushed his lips against Sawyer’s, whimpering at his mate’s taste. Wanting more but knowing he wouldn’t be able to stop if he continued, he pulled back slightly, whispering, “Let’s go home, baby.”

Nodding instead of answering, Sawyer was overcome with emotion at hearing his mate’s words.Home…our home…together…forever. Needing another kiss, Sawyer wrapped his arm around the back of Alex’s neck, tugging him forward until their lips met again.

“Hey, you there, we’re closed. You have to leave immediately!” the attendant shouted, knocking on the window to get their attention.

Chuckling at the intrusion, Sawyer let go of Alex. “You heard the man…time to go, sweetheart.”

Grinning, Alex turned the key to start the engine. “I was hoping we could let the ocean wash us off.”

“That sounds good, but I have a better idea.”

“Oh yeah? And what’s that?” Alex asked, pulling out of the parking lot.

“You…me…in a shower together…naked as the day we were born.”

Shaking his head, Alex replied, “Love the idea but unless you have a shower we can fit into, it won’t happen.”

“Nope, but I know of a great hotel that has absolutely amazing showers…and fantastic room service…not to mention the softest sheets and beds that make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.”

“And you know this because you slept on a cloud,” laughed Alex.

“No, but if I ever did, I know it would feel exactly like their beds.”

“Well, as good as that sounds, I’d rather head home because I definitely need to change my clothes before that can happen. Can I have a rain check?”

Chapter 9

Turning off the highway into the parking lot of a roadside motel time seemed to have forgotten, Glenn rolled up to the office. Unbuckling his seat belt, he glanced back at Smokey who was still staring out the window next to him. Frowning slightly, Glenn saw the tension in his friend’s body, unusual because Smokey was as cool as they came, no matter what the mission was, including those that were straight out of hell. Nothing ever bothered his friend, but now it was obvious something was. A different Smokey had gotten into the car with them after they’d stopped to eat, and it was pissing Glenn off that he couldn’t figure out what changed.

Turning to Ghost, Glenn found him looking at him with a raised eyebrow.Fuck! Any thoughts he’d had that he was the only one who noticed Smokey’s behavior was gone. Giving a shake of his head, he got out of the car, ignoring the question on Ghost’s face. “I’ll be right back,” he muttered, before heading in to get the key to their room.

Entering the lobby, Glenn quickly checked it out and seeing only an elderly night clerk shuffling through some papers at the front desk, approached him. “Reservation for Mr. White,” he growled.

“Just a minute…oh yes, here it is. If you’d please fill this out.”

Taking the registration card, Glenn picked up a pen. Once finished, he said, “Where’s the closest place to get a bite of food?”

“That would be Gus’s. Turn right, it’s about three miles down on your left. Nothing fancy but good food.”

“Thanks.” Scooping up the key, Glenn turned, his eyes sweeping the lobby as he left. While he and the clerk were the only two there, his tiger was pacing, a sign he sensed danger. Climbing back in the car, he tossed the key to Ghost. “We’re at the last room on the second floor. As far as I can tell, we’re the only ones staying here tonight.”

“Okay, but what’s bothering you?”

“Don’t know. My tiger isn’t happy.” Starting the car, Glenn drove over to the stairs leading to their room. Pointing to them he said, “Two set of stairs at the end here…one on this side, and the other at the back side of the building…two more sets halfway between us and the office. All are outside…so no cover.”

“Are you expecting trouble?” muttered Ghost, studying the surrounding area.

“Not really,” Glenn said. “Other than Riley, no one should know we’re here but…”

“Yeah, my animal ain’t happy either.”

Looking in the rear-view mirror, Glenn found Smokey in the same position, seemingly deep in thought about something. “Hey, Smoke, you with us?”

Smokey slowly swiveled his head, meeting his friend’s gaze. “Yeah, I’m here. When’s Riley sendin’ the message?” he asked Glenn.
