Drumming his fingers on the desk in his office, Mac stared at the message from his twin, frowning at it.
Hey Mac, don’t worry. I’m fine. Will explain everything.
Thanks for your help. Love ya.
At least he knew his twin was okay but Sawyer’s message didn’t give him any clues why he needed Mac’s strength, doing little to ease his worry. Searching his memory, Mac couldn’t remember the last time his twin asked for it which is why his brother’s text was pissing him off. Certainly Sawyer knew he was raising all kinds of alarm bells with Mac, and yet, all he said was…nothing that would answer my questions.
Huffing in frustration, Mac slapped his phone down on his desk, and then, swiveling his chair, leaned back and closed his eyes. Examining their link, he was satisfied his brother wasn’t in danger—at least that was one good thing. But in his gut, Mac knew Sawyer was involved insomething…something that caused his brother to lose control of his wolf. But what?
Wondering if it would help to talk to Mase about it, Mac rejected that almost immediately. None of his brothers knew about his and Sawyer’s ability to use each other’s strength and, without his twin’s approval, Mac couldn’t disclose it to anyone. The only other option was going to see Sawyer but that was impossible since Dakota’s lowblood pressure was a concern. The birth of a Dire Wolf pup was risky enough without any added complications.
And then there was Ian who was having triplets which also presented its own set of problems. The only one he wasn’t worried about was Kieran, who was healthy and simply glowing. Shaking his head, Mac knew leaving was out of the question. The only option left was to wait until Sawyer called him.Just fucking great!
“Mac?”
Hearing his name, he quickly turned around, smiling when he saw who was standing in his doorway. “Sofia, what can I do for you?”
“I’m having dinner with Hope, so you can join the family in the dining room tonight.”
“Hey, that’s great. Thanks…it’ll give me a chance to catch up with everyone.”
“Okay, see you after dinner, then.”
Staring at the spot where Sofia was a moment ago, Mac never thought Hope would be one of his success stories when Hunter drove up the driveway to the Blackwood Pack house. Of course, he didn’t do it alone, but still, he couldn’t help but pat himself on the back, if for no other reason, than keeping his aunt alive all those months. Picking up his phone, he composed a reply to his brother and, after sending it, headed upstairs.
“Did he leave yet?” whispered Hope.
With her ear against the door, Sofia heard Mac’s retreating footsteps. Cracking open the door a hair, she spied him ascending the staircase. “Yes, he’s upstairs.” Turning to face her friend, Sofia grinned at theexcitement she saw on Hope’s face. “Come on, let’s get you pretty for your debut.”

Deeply inhaling the scents of lavender, wild thyme and wolf, Alex sighed, relishing the dream he was having. Safe and warm, surrounded by love, it was the embodiment of everything he always wanted and yet never found. All through his childhood, his feeling of abandonment colored his world. Left alone, with only a few teachers who tried to make his life a little less cold and lonely, Alex yearned for a family, someone who wanted and loved him. But as the years passed, he realized he was doomed to be alone, so he spent his school years in solitude, envying his classmates, especially when they headed home for holidays and summer break.
But now, in his dream, a wolf was standing guard over him as he slept, keeping him safe, enveloping him in warmth and love. Snuggling in closer to his protector, inhaling the scents of a home he never wanted to leave, a happy smile graced his face.
“Alex,” Sawyer murmured. “Sweetheart, we have to go.”
Ignoring the voice interrupting his dream, Alex turned his face, nuzzling his protector’s neck, bringing forth a deep growl from the wolf that vibrated to his groin, settling in his cock and balls. Desire flamed through his veins prompting him to squirm against the hardness in his pants. Feeling a corresponding hardness under him, he began rubbing his ass vigorously against it. Excited by the whimpers and low moans he heard, Alex moved faster, hoping to elicit more of them.
“Sweetheart…you have to stop. I’m gonna come if you don’t.”
Come…yes…that’s what I want to do…I need to come.Wiggling faster, Alex’s hand flew to his bulge, rubbing it in sync with his jerky movements. The groans grew louder, the scents stronger, the movements more frenetic until, his animals’ fires raced through his body, igniting it until he was a burning ball of need, forcing his cum to shoot, filling his shorts with seed.
Caught in the space between sleep and wakefulness, Alex hung suspended in time, savoring the feeling, before giving his wolf protector a shy smile.
Trying to catch his breath after the unexpected orgasm Alex gave him, Sawyer wasn’t sure why it happened, but he was ready if there was a possibility of a repeat performance. But it would have to be later. Right now, the parking lot Alex parked in was closing and the attendant had already given Sawyer notice. Reluctantly, he said, “Alex…we have to go…sweetheart? Do you want me to drive?”
Drive? Why would the wolf be driving? That doesn’t make sense.Picturing the wolf with his front paws on the steering wheel as he drove Alex’s car induced a fit of the giggles in him. Imagining the strange looks other drivers would give him, his giggles grew louder, morphing into laughter when he pictured a cop pulling the wolf over for not having a proper tag around his neck.
“Hey, what’s so funny? What’s the joke?”
Sawyer’s voice finally penetrated Alex’s mind. His eyes flew open. Disappointed when he realized it was all a dream, he then felt cooling cum against his skin and knew not all of it was his. Struggling against his mate’s armsholding him, Alex felt his face turn red in embarrassment at what happened, seeking to put some distance between him and his wolf protector…mate! I mean mate!
Letting Alex go, Sawyer watched him closely as he tried to figure out why his mate was laughing on his lap one minute, then scooting out of his embrace the next, as fast as he could. Unable to figure out what caused his mate’s reaction, he asked, “Hey, is everything okay?”
Intending to assure Sawyer he was fine, Alex found he couldn’t. Instead, looking down at his fidgeting hands, he muttered, “I’m sorry for…you know…I didn’t realize…I thought it was a dream…I never meant…”
