While I hadn’t technically meantherwhen I said it, I also wouldn’t deny it.

“Come join me on the couch,” Asher said, patting the spot beside him.

She smiled and nodded for me to follow before she sat down.

There was plenty of room in the living room, so it didn’t slip past me that we were all three squished together on the sofa.

“Want some chips?”Asher asked both of us, extending the bag.

Violet grinned bigger as if this were the best thing ever as she took a handful and popped one in her mouth.I reached past her, my arm grazing hers as I reached into the bag and took a few.I noticed the look on Asher’s face and tried to convince myself that I was imagining the chemistry that seemed to flow so perfectly between the three of us right now.

We all ate quietly as Asher turned on the TV, so it wasn’t awkward.A late-night comedy show was on, and Violet turned to watch it as her face lit up before she laughed at something they said.I felt the twist in my gut when I knew that I hadn’t just been worried aboutstartingto fall for her.

I was already in over my head, teetering over the edge of being full-on in love with her.

“Do you guys want somecookies?”I asked, looking between them as I held up the package.

I could feel that things were already different between us, but I didn’t want to let things get awkward. That was thelastthing I wanted.Even though Asher and I had already crossed a line, I wanted things to go back to how they felt before that happened. While I was appreciative of him making me come and how my body was still humming with pleasure, I didn’t want to risk losing the friendship that had already come to mean so much to me.

“Sure, I would love one,” Enzo said, taking one and then leaning back against the cushion as he ate it.

I turned my attention to Asher as I pulled my shoulders down and forced a smile onto my face.I hated how nervous I felt under his gaze.Something flickered in his eyes, as if he was recognizing what was happening inside of me.It wasn’t the first time it had happened, and though I couldn’t prove it, it was like he had this ability to read my mind without me saying anything. He was always in tune with what I was thinking or feeling, which made it impossible to hide anything from him.

“Don’t do that,” he whispered with a slight shake of his head.

Shoot. This was really going to happen. He was going to force me to talk about what happened in the bathroom.

“Don’t offer you a cookie?”I asked, my voice hitching and giving me away as I tried to play dumb.

He licked his lips, and I looked away, the rush of heat prickling my skin washing over me.But unfortunately, all I found was Enzo giving me the same look from the other side.I held my breath and counted to five before I pushed it out between my puckered lips.

“If what happened in the bathroom has made you uncomfortable or—” he started before I turned back to face him and shook my head.
