“Siiin.” Naomi burst out laughing ‘cause she knew I was telling the truth.
“How's everything been going?” Dr. Coco came into the room and immediately started putting gloves on and lubing up this long ass tool that looked like a makeshift dick to me, putting a stop to our conversation.
The nurse had already come in to get Naomi’s vitals and had her change into that uglass gown.
“She’s good but I’m not. What chu’ ‘bout to do with that?”
“Mr. Smith, this is so we can give her a vaginal ultrasound,” Dr. Coco explained but that wasn’t enough for me.
“And it’s going in her puss—”
“Sin!”
“Vagina?” I corrected myself because Naomi was about to lose her shit.
“Yes, it’s so we can get better pictures of the baby. You can see with the one that I do on top of her stomach, but this is better, and no it doesn’t hurt.”
“I know because that ain’t shit compared to—”
“Again, SIN! You’re about to go sit in the car. Sit back, shut up, and don’t move!”
Dr. Coco chuckled then asked Naomi to put her feet in some little foot holders attached to the bed. Sitting up, I leaned in closer to see what she was doing. My baby was taking that stick like a pro.
Standing to my feet, I eased around the back of Dr. Coco to get a better look. Not on some sexual shit but I really wanted to see how this shit worked. When my baby appeared on the screen, I forgot all about what Dr. Coco was doing. My heart skipped beats trying to match the rhythm of what was being heard from my baby.
“Sin, the CD,” Naomi blurted out.
“Shit, hold up, Dr. Coco. You gon’ have to do all of this over again.” I dug into Naomi’s purse and pulled out the CD thengave it to the nurse. Once it was in and recording, the doctor continued.
“Everything looks good. Your right at twelve weeks and four days. The heart is sounding good and strong. Have you been taking your vitamins and still being active?”
“Yep, I go for a walk daily. I see people still working out while pregnant, so I started doing that last week.”
My neck snapped to Naomi so fast. “Bruh, why is you lying to this lady? Doc, she’on do shit. Her best friend gave her a bell that she rings when she wants something. Any little thing. If I could piss for her, she would be ringing the bell for that too just so she won’t have to move out of the bed.”
Naomi covered her face up, but I didn’t care.
“You want to talk about it?”
“Like I told the doctor at the ER, I’ve had sudden miscarriages before, and no one ever told me the cause of them. As far as I know, I was doing too much and overworked myself to the point where I lost my child... twice. I’ll do anything not to let that happen again. I don’t know if my body can’t hold kids or what, but I don’t want to take that chance again.”
“I pulled all of your records, and nothing alarmed me as to why you would have lost those babies. Sometimes things just happen. Yea, we don’t want to go through a miscarriage, but we have to look at this from different angles. Your body is not one of the issues. Maybe you were under stress then, that’s always a trigger.”
“I don’t think I was stressed.”
“But you don’t know for sure?” I butted in.
“No, Baby, I don’t.”
“The first thing we are doing when we leave here, is getting you unstressed now. Whatever we gotta do to get you back to your happy place and to a point where you are enjoying this pregnancy as if nothing bad ever happened before. I’m nottrying to make you forget about what happened, I just want you to focus on the now and right now, our baby is growing and healthy. We don’t need to put no worries in your head to make you think otherwise. You got that?”
Tears rolled down Naomi’s face, and she did nothing to stop them from falling.
“He’s right. You are stressing yourself out. Give this baby a fighting chance. With no stress,” Doc added.
“Okay,” Naomi said, and I really hoped she meant that. With her only being a little over three months, we had a long ways to go, and we would not be worried about her losing our baby for the remainder of her pregnancy.
“I’ll see you again in four weeks. If you need me before then, just call me whenever. If you start getting any type of off feelings, then just call and we can get you in here as soon as possible. We’ll get this baby here safe and sound. You just do you part and remain stress free. Ok, Ms. London?”
